Evaluation Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback? W used Audience feedback throughout every stage of our media A2 coursework this year to ensure that we were constantly aware that a bigger group of young minds unlike our small media group could portray their feedback on every idea we had to do with our music video, digipak, or magazine advert. We used this feedback to improve our project and make sure it was to a continuously high standard throughout the year. There were three main stages of oiur project that we paid even our attention to our audience feedback because of their importance in the final outcome of this project. PlanningAfter coming to a firm decision on the song that we was certain we wanted to use for our music video we showed it to a group of our peers and classmates in order to hear their reaction on what kind of music video they would expect to hear from this genre of song. The song we chose is called “Friends with benefits” by a local band known as Remember December (shown in the picture to the right). we got similar answers from everyone who listened to the song, most of which being something similar to that of a montage of fun clips combined with a band performance scene, as this expresses the youthfulness that the song presents through its very alternative style.

We also made 2 survey monkeys in order to find out not only who our target audience would be but also what our target audience would like about our video. from these two survey monkeys we concluded that our target audience would be that of teenagers of both genders, very similar to us, the age range even sometimes bordered into a young adult. We concluded from the second survey monkey that we made that our particular target audience liked a music video where the band in the music video seemed to be having a lot of fun with each other and their lives that they live together. We also got a few suggestions from our audience of making a narrative based music video as they enjoyed these little sub stories that play throughout certain music videos. Here is an example of an already made and very popular music video that fits both of these descriptions.

Our video makes great use of the “fun montage” aspect whilst still containing an underlying faint narrative line relating to the boy and the girl in the video.

ProducingWhile we were producing the video we did a number of things in terms of our audience feedback to make sure that we were staying on the right tracks even while we were in the process of already producing the music video. For example, i would constantly call over my teachers whenever i was using an editing technique that i was not sure of, such as incredibly fast paced cutting through clips like the later half of our music video goes into.

Everytime i turned to one of my peers or teachers with a problem such as this one where im not sure myself what would look better in relation to our genre i was always answered by a well explained reason on why i should or shouldn't use it. This enabled us to end with the high standard music video that we ended with. Because of this descriptive feedback from our audience. here is our rough cut from our music video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KImVWkr_wDM&ab_channel=AFAProductionsand here is are finished music video project:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXZYO3i9crQ&ab_channel=AFAProductions

From watching these two videos you will instantly realise that they are very different from one another. and thats because of the feedback that we got from our audience and peers group. One particularly noticeable change is that of the guitar scenes have changed in certain places. such as the beginning guitar scene and a few more guitar scenes throughout the video. These have been changed because we did not like how they looked before as it does not suit the guitar playing in the actual audio track. The guitar scenes in the finished

music video project suit the audio a lot better and if we would have not had this flaw pointed out to us by our audience then we might not have realised it ourselves and our project would have suffered because of this.

Evaluating:

We have recently screened the finished music video project to our target audience group, in order to see what they liked about the entire video itself. We voice recorded the entire of their feedback and made sure to ask them not only about the music video and what they thought we could change/ improve about it but also about our magazine advert and digipak that we recently finished and if they thought that everything to do with these projects was also up to the same standard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0HV_X_hG-4&ab_channel=AFAProductions

“it was edited on the beat, and it was very fast” , “it was very active, it wasn't still” these were some of the actual comments that we got about our music video. these are very good compliments for us as we were trying to aim for the energetic youthful theme that we tried to portray throughout the video. When asked to rate our video we got all 9/8’s out of 10 which is an amazing thing for us as it means we did an excellent job in producing this video. Our audience mentioned that the main thing we fell down on was that “sometimes there was talking where there wasn't singing” meaning that we used clips in certain places throughout the music video that they didn't agree with. And we accept this criticism as it was a very shaky point during the video that we used these scenes as we didn't know what else could possibly fill the gap.

Making this music video has been a very very enjoyable experience, one that i would repeat instantly if given the chance. It has provided me with skills for computer editing, in both audio and video files, as well as skills with a camera. Both of which i can use a lot later on in life which will help me greatly. Along with many other skills that i have picked up throughout this course. I have also learned how to sync an audio track up with lip syncing very well, along with the proper way to organise planning a filming trip for our music video. all things considered i have learned a great deal from this course and i am incredibly happy with how i did in retrospect.
