Evaluation question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have

learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Page 3: Evaluation question 7

O As you can see the overall look of the two magazines is very different, my preliminary task does not look very professional and is quite simple whereas my final product is much more detailed, with a lot of content and a professional look to it.

O I think my masthead was successful for the magazine but the tagline is far too thin and hard to read, also the coverlines in the star, circle and banner look like they have just been placed there, they don’t really fit in with the magazine, however they do grab the reader’s attention. The image is not very engaging as she is not looking at the camera and the white colour of the computer is overpowering the rest of the image.

O I could also have used a more varied colour scheme rather than just blue and purple

O My final product as you can see is a vast improvement, the cover image is bold and demands attention and all of the smaller images around it also attract attention.

O My colour scheme is a bit more varied which makes it stand out and the shapes I have used look like they belong on the page this time.

O My research helped me to develop my skills and by doing the preliminary task I knew what worked and what didn’t resulting in a successful final product.

O My contents pages also show how my skills have developed. Firstly, my skills with Photoshop have improved as the image on my preliminary task looks strange and unreal whereas my images on the contents of my final product don’t have many noticeable changes.

O After doing a letter from the editor on my contents page I decided not to include one on my final text as it was quite hard to think of what would be written in it and I also identified from research not all music magazines had one.

O In addition to this, the contents list on the school magazine is very simple and doesn’t stand out much so I decided to make it bolder and more interesting on my final product, introducing coloured boxes behind the section titles and putting the page names in mixed case so the sections are the boldest thing.
