Representation of the artist The music artist “Blaze has been represented as a female with attitude, this is shown by her costuming which has an urban style, such as: a hooded jacket with hoop earrings in an urban area; which fits into the genre. The audience can see this by the way her posture is and the way she walks away from the camera rather than walking towards the camera. I have used many conventions within the RnB/Hip-hop genre to represent the artists attitude and appearance. Her costuming is not a stereotypical convention because I have connected the genre of the urban style by linking back to my research of how people were dressed in their video wearing trainers and hoodies. The music artist is dressed with similar style although she wore heels to appeal to the male audience; therefore this is automatically widening the viewers of the video.

Representation of the artistThe music artist “Blaze has been represented as a female with attitude, this is shown by her costuming which has an urban style, such as: a hooded jacket with hoop earrings in an urban area; which fits into the genre. The audience can see this by the way her posture is and the

way she walks away from the camera rather than walking towards the camera. I have used many conventions within the RnB/Hip-hop genre to represent the artists attitude and appearance. Her costuming is not a stereotypical convention because I have connected the genre of the

urban style by linking back to my research of how people were dressed in their video wearing trainers and hoodies. The music artist is dressed with similar style although she wore heels to appeal to the male audience; therefore this is automatically widening the viewers of

the video.

Setting/locationThe main locations is the subway and the house where Blaze is going. The setting has been put into black and white, this is because it is

a slow song and I felt it will be the best way to fulfil the scene with a darker atmosphere to create tension. When the spectators view this they will find it unique from other music videos because you rarely find black and white music videos. This automatically brings to attention that the music video is not an upbeat song and it has some kind unexpected side to it. The subway location was a good idea for the song because the song shows two sides, the narrative and the performance. The performance half shows her emotion before

she meets the male character. The performance is produced in the subway because it is seen as urban and it shows no-one else around her and gives a sense of loneliness into the scene. The establishing shot of her approaching the house choosing whether to enter or

not this shows that she is nervous or frightened maybe at the fact her life may be at risk.

Costumes and propsThe costuming is urban so it fits in with the genre. During my research before recording the music video I had found that stereotypically

hoodies and trainers and baseball caps were seen as urban due to the history behind it in America. The male part in the music video includes these stereotypical clothing which I have mentioned in the list of clothing. Blaze was wearing a similar clothing, but because she’s a female I found it hard to decide whether she would have similar costuming as the male such as a hooded jumper and trainers. My idea was to make

her look urban as well as making her look attractive. For example she was wearing heels and to show off her music artist side to create a diva tension but during the narrative it changes and she looks more vulnerable with her costuming I've made it so she feels she has to fit in with

how the male is dressing. She then wears a black jacket similar to the male she is going to meet.

Camerawork and editingHere I have used an over the shoulder shot because it shows that “Blaze” has now come face to face with the person that she is

going to meet. An over the shoulder shot shows the narrative side from her perception. Therefore this gives the audience a clearer view of how she may be feeling as if it was in first person. That she may be feeling intimidated from where she is sitting. The shot was created as if the audience were about to face the male “Blaze” is afraid of. So I have used a different conventional

angle for this scene as it is different from the performance scenes.

PerformanceThe performance side of the music video may been created to make it look as if she’s scared or nervous before she leaves to meet the male. Here attitude seems as if she doe not look bothered but then she uses hand gestures to give clues of how she is

feeling. For example for when she covers her face she uses an evil way as if she's attracted to danger even though she is scared. Also the prop of the ring she is wearing also identifies danger because it is a skull ring. This medium shot is to show her attitude of how she is feeling before the music video reaches the narrative section. The camera shots I have used for this is mainly medium shots and close-ups because I felt that this is an emotional song and these shots are the best way for the audience to interact with the music artist. For example the close-up of “Blaze covering her eye and then opening it back up is a symbolic usage that she’s attracted to danger, I have tried my best to fit in the hand gestures and body movement with the lyrics to fulfil

the song. Eye contact with the camera is a strong performance skill, because it has a highest quality to interact with the audience.

NarrativeThe narrative section is basically the part were she is seen as more vulnerable because the male character is seen as more superior then her. The prop is still in her hand when she dies and takes the shot. I have not used a shot or put in the shot where she is seen shooting herself within the game because I felt this would be to dangerous for viewers to watch because someone younger then the age range suitable may watch this. The conventions of this shot put both characters together and shows the end outcome to the music video narrative section. What inspired me to produce my narrative in this way: The home environment because it brings a sense of realism of the situation “Blaze” is in. This shot shows that the male is more dominant as he has won the game of “Russian Roulette”. The other types of shots I have used in the music video is the male using hand

gestures to say “come here” this shows a more commanding side that he is more powerful compared to “Blaze”. Therefore this straight away shows the audience who has more authority.

Genre and how the music video suggests itThis shows the genre through costuming and the gun. During my research of RnB/Hip-hop. I had learnt that baseball hats and hoodies were a main essential in a music video to clearly state to the audience that this is a RnB/Hip-hop music video; it’s a way to clearly identify the genre. Also Gun shows that it is a dangerous side to the music video and within this genre this convention straight away shows the genre fairly well

due to the different types of props used within the RnB/Hip-hop genre such as money, girls, weapons and cars. Overall I feel the conventions I have used successfully shows the symbolic methods of RnB/ Hip-Hop due to the props (gun and car), the location of the subway, the

costuming of hoodies, and hoop earrings and heels. These are all the conventions you would see in a typical RnB/ Hip-hop music video. Therefore I feel I have portrayed the images clearly throughout the music video for the audience to straight away identify the genre.

How characters are introducedIn this new scene the character is introduced with a tilt. This convention can be used very well by introducing a music artist in a tantalising way. This is because the camera slowly tilts upwards creating tension for the audience to be excited what the next

shot will be.

Special effectsI had used an extreme close up framing this is to focus on a certain body part. This shot adds significance to the scene, when the lyrics reach a meaningful part of the song; it gives an impassioned speech to the audience. This is a useful cinematic tool and feel it provides a certain level of intimacy with the audience. The eyes play an important role in the music video because it provides

great "cutting points".
