1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

One way my magazine uses conventions is that it does have a big masthead like most magazines. I have done this as the convention is hardly ever challenged and that it makes my masthead stand out from anything else on the page.

Both mastheads stand out and are eye catching.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Another convention that I have used is the date in the contents page this is widely done and not very many people challenge it. It is usually out of way s that readers attentions are focused on the articles rather than the date.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Just like the NME magazine I have chosen to use the convention of where the text is in perfect ratio to the picture. I chose to do this in my magazine as challenging the convention would have look unprofessional and looked as if an amateur had made it. There was no other way that in my research I thought the convention could be challenged so I decided that it should just have been used rather than use challenging or developing it.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Another way my magazine used conventions was by using the cover lines and straplines.

I used this as it was a great way of attracting the audience with big title and then drawing them in with more detail which was the strapline. I decided it was best to keep the convention rather than challenging it. As it would have been unattractive and it would mean that my title would have to dominate most of the double page when I wanted text and picture.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Areas in society that are represented by my magazine are ones of living on the streets. This is because most rap is considered a working class music. This music would favour people mostly in the C1, C2, E & D categories. My product does represent this as we are seen the tough life of living on the streets with my pictures showing two people fighting this shows the ‘Gang culture’ that surrounds the rap culture and that it is represented by my magazine.

We can see the gang culture represented by both magazines.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The types of sub-culture my magazine represents are the hoodies. We can tell as in rap music we hear about gang life and fighting. So this magazine would suit the hoodies group in society rather than any other group. My magazine would suit hoodies as the hoody is linked with crime and the culture associated with crime.

Representation of gang culture is shown to be cool and good in both magazines.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

When I was researching about magazines I had to look at suitable publishers that would suit my magazine. One of this publishers was Bauber. I decided not to pick Bauber as most of there magazines were not about the music industry and they might not have been able to know how to run a music magazine company as they are different to running a TV magazine. But if it were not for that then I would pick them for being my publisher as they had a gap in their product range for a music magazine.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Another publisher that I researched about was UK Magz. UK Magz would not have been a suitable candidate for my magazine as they already have the Rap industry covered with the magazine BlackBook. It would not be advisable for me not to use this publisher as there is no point in two competitor magazines being ran by the same company.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The type of media distribution that would be perfect for my magazine would be IPC media. IPC media would be a perfect candidate to distribute my magazine as it has a gap in its range of products for a rap magazine. It would also be great for IPC to have my magazine in its range of products as it could reached audiences that it has never reached before. Which would

4. Who would the audience be for your media product?

My target audience would be…

Age - 16-24 this will be my age group for my target audience as some of my picture and text is directed at a younger audience

Gender – I would be aiming at a unisex audience as researched that there is slight difference that women and men that read rap style magazines

Social group - C1 C2 D E these are the social economic groups that I am aiming at because the language that I have used would only appeal to these groups

Ethnicity - African origin because mostly black originated people are into the rap industry

Psychographic Profile Aspirers as 16 -21 are care free they aspire to become a status icon and like significant symbols and this why I am my magazine at this psychographic profile group as the rap industry is all about status icons and being the biggest and the best

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

One way that I attracted my audience was that I used images that they would consider to be cool and would be able to connect with them.

As they are a in the psychographic profile group of aspirers and aspirers like to become and icon and a symbol. Also another way this aims at my audience is that the rap industry is into the gang life, crime and fighting.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

Another way I attracted my audience is that I used some language that they would be familiar with this would mean that the magazine would be better designed for my target audience and it would make it seem more buyable to my target audience to.

The language that I have used here is perfect for the audience that I am aiming at.

Page 14: Evaluation[1] (1)

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

Another way I addressed my audience was by asking them what they thought of the final

product they replied by saying.

The magazine was overall good. The front page was different and stood out from what was currently on the market.

My audience also was saying that my magazine contents was too plain and need to be more dynamic to attract them more so that they would be more likely to buy it.

My audience also made comments on my double page by saying the picture related to them and the amount of text was good for the audience that I was aiming at.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

In the planning process of my magazine I used word document to draw a rough out line of magazine and what would go where. It was very effective as it helped me when I was sketching my magazine

I also used internet explorer to see what my type of magazines and what type of conventions they had.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

One feature that I learnt about Photoshop was the smudge tool. By me using this I made my text more unique than any other original text that existed on Photoshop. This was really effective as it made my magazine masthead stand out more than it would have done before. This was the

tool I used to create my messed up Masthead to make it unique from the current text styles on Photoshop.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Another thing I learnt about Indesign was how to place effects on items to make them seem 3D. I used this as I looked at the magazine and it looked boring and pretty standard. So by adding these effect it made the magazine seem more enticing

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Overall I think that I have learnt more since I did my preliminary task. I have done so my learning more features that are available for me to use in Photoshop and Indesign. I have learnt more as know how to maximise the use of certain elements such as the blur tool or smudge tool.

Page 19: Evaluation[1] (1)

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

From my progression from preliminary task to my main task I can s ay that I have progressed enough to have produced more than my preliminary task by producing a double page spread. Another reason to suggest that I have progressed from preliminary task to my main task is that by visually looking at the magazines the main task looks more professional and visually appealing than the preliminary task.
