Spend a moment to think of the number of students who have been through our school, their experiences, what they have learnt, how it has shaped them, how it has shaped our community and broader society. There is an amazing array of occupations and life experiences that our students have moved on to since their time at our school and there has been enormous growth in the programs offered to students. Evans River is very much a vibrant, learning and caring community. Return to School for All Students – Monday 25 th May I assume youve heard of the Premiers announcement that all students are expected to return to school on Monday 25 th May. Its about a week earlier than weve been thinking it may have been, but we have been building our organisation to have everything in place for a return for a while, so we are in a good place. We know the research and tracking of cases in NSW shows there has been very few cases in NSW schools and every case has been tracked individually. Since 5 th March, there have been 2 cases involving primary students; 8 involving secondary students*; and 9 cases where staff were infected. These figures include both public and private schools. In NSW public schools there are 835,000 students and 66,000 teachers. So the infection rate in schools has been very small. In balancing the risk, and putting in place a whole range of safety measures, school are considered safe for our kids to come back to at school learning. We have in place hand sanitiser which the kids will have sprayed on their hands on entry to classrooms, disinfectant wipe downs of desks and cleaning of other equipment during the day. There is a cleaner on site wiping down fittings that are regularly touched throughout the day. Social distancing is not required between students. Staff have been briefed on the social distancing requirements for adults and we have put in place arrangements to see staff are able to work to these requirements. Unfortunately we are still in a time where parents need to drop their students at the gate and not enter the grounds unless it is pre-arranged and absolutely necessary. Social distancing between adults must be maintained. If you are in a car when picking up and dropping off students please dont get out of the car. Please do not meet up with other adults and socialise at the school gates. If your child needs to order lunch and is too young to do it for themselves, please have them collect a few bags from the canteen and take them home where you can fill out the details and put the money in the bag. Payments can also be made over the phone via credit card but this is more time consuming for Jodie and canteen staff. These are some of the additional safety measures: some internal school activities are not permitted; excursions are still not permitted; work experience (which is different to work placement for senior students) is not to occur; no inter-school activities are permitted; no in-school activities involving volunteers are permitted; community use of school facilities is not permitted; major school assemblies are not permitted; access to the site by adults other

Our 20th Birthday - Saturday 23rd May Happy Birthday Evans River K-12! Our school will turn 20 on Saturday. We had a number of activities planned as a celebration but made the decision some weeks ago to postpone them till later in the year. Spend a moment to think of the number of students who have been through our school, their experiences, what they have learnt, how it has shaped them, how it has shaped our community and broader society. Return to School for All Students – Monday 25th May I assume you’ve heard of the Premier’s announcement that all students are expected to return to school on Monday 25th May. Pop Art Comic Well done to Daniel Stewart on his fishing inspired

Pop Art comic book strip! Year 8 have been

learning about the Pop Art movement this term.

I’m very excited to have everyone back in the

classroom soon so that we can start making some

artworks together. Maddy Simpson, Art Teacher

Senior Ag The Senior Ag students were really happy to be

back into practical activities. These photos were

taken of them preparing an investigation into the

effect of light intensity on the growth of soya bean

plants.

than staff is strictly limited. If students present unwell during the school day, they will be asked to go to the Office where their temperature will be taken with a non-contact forehead thermometer. If their temperature falls outside a certain range, or if other symptoms present, we will be in touch for you to take your child home and encourage you to have them medically assessed. We would appreciate parents supporting schools arrangements by discouraging students from ringing or texting from their phones until they have been assessed by the school office. It is very unhelpful for our routines to have parents call to collect before we know anything about a child wishing to go home; especially in the current circumstances. All of these things are in place to ensure our staff and students are safe. From Monday, students are expected back at school. We return to normal roll marking arrangements. Of course we expect students to stay at home if they are feeling unwell. If students are absent an explanation is required. In many instances, particularly for older students, a medical certificate will be required to explain an absence. The school will not be continuing to support “at home” learning as we have done during the days when students were learning at home. From Monday it is a return to in-class learning. All in all we can see the students are enjoying being back on the part time basis they have been attending. We look forward to seeing all students back at school from Monday so that they can continue their learning and growing through their life with us at school. *One extra case yesterday in a private school in Sydney.

Interested in a Cleaning Job? Our school is cleaned by ISS. Not surprisingly, in the current climate, ISS need additional staff. They have provided the school with information about positions currently vacant in the workplaces they service. If you are interested in this type of work please contact the school and we can email or forward a hard copy of the information from ISS. Rob Walker – Principal
