Sew What Happened Last Month….?

What a crowd we had on 8/21/17! The Evening Star Quilt Guild had 72 ladies present with 9 of those guests! It was a packed house as President Sherry McConnell welcomed us all. She thanked the Vanna girls, sign in table ladies and the hostesses for their work this evening. Ann Fisher was thanked for the newsletter.

Linda Beavers reported on the Elwood Glass Festival Quilt Show that was held earlier in August and Linda Lupton gave us information about the upcoming Heritage Days/Quilt Show in early September.

The magazines that we brought in and others purchased for 25 cents last year has been managed by Sharon McElfresh. The total amount collected was given out to seven lucky attendees. What a nice surprise!

Nan Hodge and Ann Fisher went over the next Mystery Clue for our scrappy project. They are doing a great job. Thanks, ladies! There were 20 participants in Show and Tell with Alyce Taylor winning the drawing (donated by Jean Lightfoot Faris).

The highlight of the evening was our program presented by Alice Ridge. She shared her Quilting from the Hardware Store” and had us all laughing and thinking about new ways to use hardware store finds for our quilting, sewing, crafting, etc. It

was a great program and she had a shopportunity for us, as well.

Respectfully submitted, Stephanie Crabtree, Secretary $$$ SHOW ME THE MONEY $$$

Marie Webster would go into her garden and sketch the flowers growing there for her quilt designs. Today the garden is a welcoming spot to enjoy not only the flowers but the brick pathway with bricks engraved honoring loved ones, quilters and friends. The cost of adopting a brick is $100. Each brick is 4" x 8" and features your own message. You are in-vited to support TQHF by dedicating a brick in honor of a special person in your life. The order form is on our website.

New Hours: We are now open Tuesday - Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Musings From Marie’s House

??? MYSTERY QUILT CLUE #5 ???

Instructions are for 33" x 33" ( 51" x 69")

Use a neutral and a colored scrap for each half square triangle block. Use your favorite method to make the 3 1/2” d (3” finished) half square triangle blocks. If you are making 2 at a time, you will need 3 7/8” squares. I used 4” and trimmed them down.

At this point we will have everything we need to assemble one of our blocks. We will make 5 (18) nine patch blocks following the example at right. Press all of the seams either outward or inward. Do all of the blocks the same so that they will nest with the alternate block. This block is known as the Illinois Block.

Make 20 (72) 3 1/2” unfinished half square triangle blocks
