Zambia is a leader in the SADC region in developing commercial agriculture. The growing interest in the country in developing improved mechanization, inputs, storage and services serve as a resource and example for Zambia’s neighbors. The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Southern Africa Trade Hub is supporting AgriTech Expo 2015 to expand its reach and focus in order to serve a broader, regional audience by introducing much needed technology and agricultural services to improve food security. The Southern Africa Trade Hub is supporting high-level presentations and discussions in a number of key agricultural development areas as part of AgriTech 2015. It will also support exhibitors in terms of capacity development focusing on increasing actual transactions taking place at the Expo. The USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub is a five-year US government-funded program designed to increase international competitiveness, intra-regional trade and food security in Southern Africa. The Trade Hub’s agricultural activities are driven by
USAID’s Feed the Future Strategy and focus on intra-regional trade in the targeted value chains of maize, soybeans and groundnuts. Primary support is directed to the Feed the Future focal countries within the region (Malawi, Mozambique, and Zambia) with special emphasis on encouraging investment and technology transfer from South African organizations in-line with USAID’s Strategic Partnership with South Africa. The Southern Africa Trade Hub also supports the African Competitiveness and Trade Expansion (ACTE) initiative. With a team of regional and international experts based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Gaborone, Botswana, the Southern Africa Trade Hub provides targeted technical assistance to governments, the private sector and civil society organizations to advance
regional trade within Southern Africa. As a regional program the Southern Africa Trade Hub works to strengthen the competitiveness of the grain, soy and groundnut value chains by reducing post-harvest losses, introducing better seeds and technologies, strengthening regional agricultural institutions and supporting trade and investment links.
USAID’S SOUTHERN AFRICA TRADE HUB AT AGRITECH
EXPO 2015
As part of the Agritech Expo, USAID will be running a regional S.M.E vendor subsidiary programme. The programme is designed to financially support the participation of small to medium enterprises from within the SADC region at Agritech Expo, giving them an opportunity to attend the Trade Exhibition and benefit from direct exposure and business networking within the regional farming community.
If you would like to apply, or recommend an enterprise, for the USAID programme at Agritech Expo 2014 contact our Event Sales Manager [email protected]
