Do not miss one of the most imaginative Christmas lights displays in this part of Europe.Ljubljana’s Christmas markets, accompanied by food and drink stalls, become the centre of the city’s social life in December, while its nearby squares host a vast programme of free music concerts and other events for adults and children. The festivities culminate on the New Year’s Eve, with celebrations in Ljubljana’s main squares.

The 26th Biennial of Design, curated by Austrian design curator and cultural producer Thomas Geisler together with assistant curator Aline Lara Rezende, is taking on one of the greatest challenges of our time: information. Under the motto Common Knowledge, this year’s Biennial of Design tackles the information crisis. Working with content, structures, and stakeholders, the 26th Biennial of Design in Ljubljana, BIO 26| Common Knowledge, hopes to find ways, unearth projects, and explore concepts and systems that can serve to turn this disruptive chaos in and of information into creative knowledge clusters. The notion of “common knowledge” relates and refers to what people know; more broadly, if refers to what people think and how they structure their ideas, feelings, and beliefs. Furthermore, the term “common knowledge” carries a sense of communal or shared knowledge.

My Feet. My Shoes. My Way.6 Dec 2019 - Dec 2020, Slovenian Ethnographic MuseumThe exhibition is dedicated to the coexistence of feet and footwear, their variable shapes and meanings in space and time, and to their role in the organization of the individual’s own world. It reveals many aspects of footwear beyond its material form and a number of questions that exceed the apparent self-evident nature of our daily choice and use. How do I observe my feet and how those of the other people? And what about the shoes - how do I perceive them, select them, and make use of them? Do I experience them from the outside or from the inside? Why do I discard some shoes and keep the others? Zoran Mušič (1909-2005)Permanent exhibition at the National GalleryZoran Mušič, the best known 20th century Slovenian-born painter and a man with more than one homeland, spent most of his life between Venice and Paris. He mostly painted landscapes, still lives, portraits, Dalmatian donkeys and horses, trees, views of Venice, double portraits with his wife Ida, and poignant self-portraits depicting him as an old man. His visual motifs were always related to the Slovenian region of Kras and its typical scenes. He became world famous with his series of paintings We Are Not the Last, in which he relived the scenes he experienced in the Dachau concentration camp. Ljubljana’s National Gallery displays the world’s only permanent survey exhibition of Mušič’s work, which explores the entire range of the famous artist’s painting techniques. Plečnik CollectionThe permanent exhibition at the Plečnik House in Trnovo presents the most important projects of the late architect. Plečnik’s creativity comes to life through the plans, models and photographs of his creations such as the Zacherl House in Vienna, Prague Castle, the National and University Library in Ljubljana, the Ljubljana Central Market, Žale Cemetery, the Church of St. Michael at the Ljubljana Marshes and numerous other masterpieces. Several plans of Plečnik’s never realized visions are also on display. The Cathedral of Freedom, the master’s vision of the Slovenian parliament, is especially worthy of our attention.Guided tours: every hour, on the hour (the last guided tour at 17:00). A legend of the classical music world, pianist Martha Argerich rose to international prominence when she became the first pianist from the Western Hemisphere to win the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1965. Shrouded in mystery and enchantment, her stunning performances have since become the synonym for mesmerizing beauty.Enjoying the reputation of one of the world’s leading ensembles, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra is acclaimed for its beautifully homogenous sound, interpretive precision, versatility and adaptability.
