Our Featured Performers

The Kim & Dan Christian DuoKim and Dan have established themselves as among the premier accordionists in the world. Their unique ability to play together with exact

precision is unsurpassed anywhere. They have excellent technique and mastery of the accordion. Performances are charged with vibrant energy and a passion and love that create an experience that will be cherished.

Dan and Kim met when Kim was just 5 years old and Dan began accordion lessons

with her father. They grew up competing at music festivals where they both won many trophies.BothhavewontheRockyMountainAccordion Virtuoso Competition numerous times while Dan also won the prestigious AnthonyGalla-Rinitravelingtrophy.Kimwasan accordion major at Loretto Heights College in Denver and has won the AFNA Virtuoso Solo Champion, was a US National Champion and received an honorary bronze medal World Champion (Coupe Mondiale).

Both Kim and Dan have taught music for over 35 years, have directed many award winning accordion orchestras of all levels and produced their own show entitled “Music MakestheWorldGoRound”whichraninBranson, Missouri for two years. They have also performed extensively throughout the US, with engagements in Canada and as far away as Beijing, China and continue to play over 200 gigs a year while enjoying each and every performance.

The Penny Sanborn TrioTHEPENNYSANBORNTRIOfeatures Penny on accordion, Jamie Philp on guitar and RubimdeToledoonbass.This exceptional trio performs live music for special events including receptions, corporate events, weddings and concerts.

Their Chic European sound includes an attractive collection of french musette pieces, Italian folk songs, tango suites and improvised jazz tunes. Listeners will identify with the folk melodies at heart, the technique of classical music along with the improvisation of jazz. It is a fresh and invigorating way of treating this traditional music.

Penny’s performance credits include appearances with the world renowned singer Luciano Pavarotti and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also performed at many places in Canada and around the world including Italy, Dubai, France and Switzerland.

Jamie Philp, GuitarJamie is a graduate of the MacEwan Music program where he studied from 1977-1981 and has been a faculty member since 1983. He has been an instructor in Music Technology, General

Ensemble, Guitar and Contemporary combos over the last three decades. Jamie’s life long interest in multiple music genres has created an in-demand artist performing Jazz, Pop, Folk, Bossa, Hawaiian and Early Music.

RubimdeToledo,BassAlberta bassist and composer, RubimdeToledo,combinestheinfluencesofhisBrazilianheritage and his dedication to the jazz tradition to create an approach to music that is refreshing and uplifting. Rubimhasadiverserhythmicpalette inspired by world

music, jazz and contemporary music, a lure towards improvisation and a forward-lookingtraditionalism.Rubimnurturesacommanding sound and style as a bassist, soloist and composer. He is the head of the bass department at MacEwan University and a frequent musical director at the Calgary-based Decidedly Jazz Danceworks.
