EVERGREEN 2.2 NEW FEATURES

AUTOCOMPLETE SUGGESTIONS

Ten suggestions are the default, but is configurable. Scroll through suggestions with your mouse, or use the arrow keys. Select a suggestion to view records that are linked to this suggestion. This feature is not turned on by default.

COPY LOCATIONS GROUPS

The Copy Location Groups feature enables users to search groups of copy locations. Librarians may want to group copy locations by audience or genre, for example, to facilitate patron searches. Copy location groups may be comprised of copy locations at a single branch or across a consortium. These groups appear to users in the catalog’s org unit tree for easy searching.

You can condense or re-order the organizational tree into a simpler structure for patrons using the OPAC or hide parental org units. You can hide a parental org unit yet st i l l make its chi ld org units vis ible in the OPAC.

CUSTOM ORG UNIT TREES

CUSTOMIZABLE TOOLBAR

By default, two toolbars are avai lable in the staff cl ient: circulation and cataloging. This feature enables you to customize toolbars in the staff cl ient. You can create toolbars for specifi c org unit(s), workstation(s), or login(s).

You can search for a patron’s record, and double cl ick on a result to access that record. You can double cl ick on an item in the Holdings Maintenance screen to access copy information. The item is l inked to the Volume/Copy Creator, i f you turned it on in the staff cl ient’s org unit sett ings. I f you did not turn on the Volume/Copy Creator, then the item l inks to the Item Attr ibutes.

DOUBLE CLICKING

By default, fi nes accrue only on dates that the library is open. This feature enables you to charge patrons fi nes on dates the library is closed. Fines accrue during scheduled closings as well as during normal weekly closed dates.

To enable this feature:

1) Click Admin → Local Administration → Library Settings → Charge fi nes on overdue circulations when closed

2) Click Edit.

3) Set the value to True.

4) Click Update Setting.

IMPROVED ACQUISITIONS NAVIGATION

In Evergreen version 2.2, providers that you have permission to edit will sort to the top of the list ahead of providers that you have permission only to view. In addition, you can search and fi lter the displayed fields in the provider and fund interfaces.

LINE NUMBERS FOR DISPLAY SCREENS

This feature organizes screen displays by numbering lines on a screen. You will find this feature on any screen that uses auto grid and on all xul lists. The red circle in the image below provides an example of a line number.

NEW TAB BUTTON

This feature enables you to add a new tab to the Evergreen staff cl ient by cl icking the + sign adjacent to the tab that you currently have opened. As in previous versions, you can also add new tabs by cl icking Fi le → New Tab, or use the hotkey, Ctrl+T.

RETURN TO SEARCH RESULTS

You may return to search results directly from any view of the MARC record, including the OPAC View, MARC Record, MARC Edit, and Holdings Maintenance. You can use this to page through records in the MARC Record View or Edit interfaces. You do not have to return to the OPAC View to access results.

SMS TEXT MESSAGING

The SMS Text Messaging feature enables users to receive hold notices via text message. Users can opt-in to this hold notification as their default setting for all holds, or they can receive specific hold notifications via text message. Users can also send call numbers and copy locations via text message.

You can sort on: Circulation Pol icies, Hold Pol icies, Circulation Limit Sets, Barcode Completion, Acquisit ions User Request List, and Vandelay Import Errors. You can sort in ascending or descending order, and can priorit ize the order in which columns wi l l sort.

TARGET COPIES AT CLOSED LIBRARIES

By default, when a patron places a hold on a title, the hold targeter will search for copies to fi ll the hold only at circulating libraries that are open. Copies at closed libraries are not targeted to fi ll holds. When turned on, this feature enables Evergreen to target copies that have closed circulating libraries to fi ll holds.

USER ACTIVITY TYPES

The User Activity Types feature enables you to specify the user activity that you want to record in the database. You can use this feature for report ing purposes. This function wi l l a lso display a last activity date in a user’s account.

VANDELAY INTEGRATED W ACQUISITIONS

The Load MARC Order Record interface enables you to add MARC records to selection lists and purchase orders and upload the records into the catalog. The Vandelay interface enables you to create specifi c match points between incoming MARC records and exisiting catalog records. Combining these two features enables you to track on order MARC records through the Acquisitions interface and to util ize the record matching mechanisms available in Vandelay.
