Veterans’ Stories: Hear Them Now The Veterans Breakfast Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to sharing veterans’ stories. There are no membership dues or requirements, and you don’t have to be a veteran to attend . Last year, over 1,200 different people attended at least one of our 32 storytelling breakfasts and trips. Our events have been featured in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Tribune-Review, as well as on KDKA-TV and WTAE-TV News. If you haven’t attended, give us a try! The VBC grew tremendously last year after attaining 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable non-profit status. We now have a dedicated Board of Directors and a paid part-time executive director (Todd). We were also able to hire a talented and energetic intern for the spring. Katy Bowers is a junior at Duquesne University, and she will be assisting us at some of our breakfasts and behind the scenes. You’ll notice some changes this spring. We work hard to keep the breakfast prices as low as possible, but we finally had to raise the cost of the breakfasts in the South Hills and Penn Hills. To keep our costs low, we moved our South Hills location to Salvatore’s Banquets (see directions on p. 2). As always, if you or a friend would like to attend but can’t afford it, let us know, and your breakfast will be paid for out of our Veterans Breakfast Fund. If you have questions or would like more information, please call Todd at 412-623-9029. We look forward to another great year of stories! “When it matters most – Count on Us”

“For these veterans of World War II, the passage of time has greyed their hair, slowed

their gaits and faded their memories. Yet they could clearly remember where they

were and what they were doing when they heard about the attack on Pearl Harbor.” -Kaitlynn Riely, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette,

December 7, 2011

The mission of the Veterans Breakfast Club is to provide all veterans the opportunity to share their stories of service with each other and the public. We do this mainly through storytelling programs that promote education and active listening while building connections between military and civilian America.

We believe that telling and listening to stories can nourish us and help build a more compassionate nation. Veterans’ stories--whether they be entertaining, inspirational, instructive, commemorative, or healing--remind us that history is built one story at a time.
