First of all once I opened InDesign I placed my front cover image within the center of my border. This would be the main central point of the magazine and I wanted to

create everything else upon the front cover surrounding this main image due to this being the main focus.

I then created my magazine masthead “NRM” at the top and center of my magazine using the font ‘highlander’ which I downloaded from dafont.com. I did this by going to

the text tool on the left of the InDesign tool panel – drawing a text box and then writing my text within that.

Page 3: Evidence of Front Cover

I then once again created a text box below my main masthead to create the full title of my magazine “new rock magazine” and once again used the same font to follow the

theme of my magazine and keep continuity throughout.

Page 4: Evidence of Front Cover

I then changed my main masthead font color to red to further connote the rock and roll theme and make is stand out further. I did this by highlighting the text box and going to

the ‘swatches’ icon and choosing the dark red color. Once I had done this I made another text box to create my call out using the font ‘mouse deco’ which I had

downloaded from dafont.com and put this font in italics.

I then wanted to create a flash to draw the audience further into the magazine. I did this by using the circular shape tool and drew the circle whilst holding shift to create a perfectly rounded circle.

Secondly I wanted to fill the shape in black. I did this by highlighting the circle and going into the swatches tool and choosing the black colour, this then filled the circle shape in black.

After this I once again went into the text box tool and drew a text box near the flash. I then used the ‘highlander’ font and rotated it to fit into the flash. I then highlighted the text and went into the swatch tool making the font colour white.

After this I changed my mind and rotated the text box tool so the font was straight. I then added a drop shadow to the flash object by right clicking – choosing effects- and then drop shadow. I used a red colour to highlight this and lowered the opacity slightly to create a softer effect.

I then decided to add a drop shadow to the ‘NRM’ and ‘New Rock Media’ font to further make it stand out. I once again right clicked the text box tools – chose effects – drop shadow. I used a black drop shadow to further highlight the masthead – especially the ‘NRM’ font.

I then wanted to create my slogan, dateline and price tag. I once again draw a text box for each of these and used the ‘mouse deco’ font. I also continuously used the guidelines to position and align these text boxes to create the most clean, professional and visually appealing look.

I then wanted to create my main body of text. I once again used the text box tool to create my text. After I did this I positioned where I thought most appropriate.

I then highlighted the word future and used the swatch tool to put that word in red. This made the headline stand out further and also further connote the rock and roll theme

Page 10: Evidence of Front Cover

I then created a line underneath the font to separate the different body’s of text.I did this by drawing the line with the line tool and then changing the line size and using the thick – thin setting. I then drew another text box and used the swatches to once again change the font colour. I then duplicated the line and position it below this font and created another text box. Then duplicating another line tool.

I then continued to create text boxes filling my magazine with appropriate titles etc. and changed the colour of the font by using the swatch tool.

Page 12: Evidence of Front Cover

I then added a drop shadow to the text boxes to make them more outstanding. I changed the opacity on some text boxes to make them stand out more or less. For example the main headline stands out more than the rest of the font.

I then wanted to create my ‘free poster’ flash object. I placed my image I was going to use into InDesign and rotated it too fill the space I wanted it in.

I then right clicked the image – went to stroke weight – and added a weight of 2. This made the image stand out much more and gain the audience attention

Page 14: Evidence of Front Cover

Finally I added a drop shadow to my ‘free poster’ to make it stand out further. I also added another text box to the right of the image. I rotated this text box and placed it to visually fit with the image.

Finally I also moved my slogan, price tag and date issue to the far right of my magazine. I felt that this made the magazine more visually appealing and clear.

Front Cover Magazine Evidence – After Audience Feedback

Page 16: Evidence of Front Cover

Once I gained my audience feedback I realised I had to make my masthead larger to stand out and gain my audience attention. I did this by increasing the font sizes of both text.

Page 17: Evidence of Front Cover

I also realised that I needed to include a barcode to follow conventions. I opened Photoshop and used the line tool to create the barcode lines. I also used the text tool to create the number code at the bottom.

Page 18: Evidence of Front Cover

I then imported the barcode that I had created within Photoshop. I placed the barcode in the conventional bottom corner and finally changed the position, width and height to make it fit into my magazine.
