Communication is the basis of our lives and we would in this day and age, be handicapped without it. Everyday we are communicating with each other in some way or another, be it by using words, actions or even expressions in conveying a message. We humans depend not only on face-to-face communication but the kind that brings technology to the fore to bridge that gap between people by mere seconds across vast distances. We take a look briefly into what are the major types of communication, along with their importance.
Communication as you can see, is an important factor that governs our everyday lives. What is needed most is the effectiveness of how we communicate, which is often misinterpreted. In order to pass a message along in its entirety without jumbling up its core meaning, it is wise to always review what is being sent, and think beforehand about what is right to say when put into words. That is why, reviewing one's work diligently and repeatedly is always stressed upon.

Beginning of the telephone era
• The need of communication devices for armies in both world wars gave birth to the research of smaller and much more efficient communication devices
• Then around the early 1940’s came the predeccesor to the modern telephone - “ The WALKIE TALKIE”
• In the early stages of the radio,the idea of a mobile telephone unit was considered a joke.
Mobile telephoning It wasn’t till after the war, that the world saw the first serious solutions to mobile telephoning.

• In 1981 the MMT system was launched in Scandinavia.
• It provided national coverage in Sweden , Norway , Denmark and Finland.
• But in those days the telephones were bulky and stow away items mostly used in transport.

• It took more than a decade for the mobile phones to shrink in size and weight under half a kilo and then achieved pocket success.
• The introduction of GSM and other similar standards saw the emergence of even smaller and lighter phones.

Ever since the first telephone, the idea of a video phone was on most of the telecom inventor’s mind. Now it isn’t a dream anymore. In 1999 ericsson demonstrated the worlds first MOBILE VIDEO CALL.

Now a days, one of the fast growing spot in the stream of communication is the Wireless and Mobile Technology. The Mobile Phone Companies whether GSM or CDMA, are providing lucrative services at affordable prices to the consumers. The mobile phone companies are doing lot of research in enhancing their services to attract new customers. According to one news report, India is one of the World’s fastest growing mobile phone markets. As per TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) figures as on April 6, 2011, there were 791.38 million mobile phone subscribers in India. India is likely to become World's Number 1 Mobile Market by 2013 with more than a billion Mobile Users
THE present communication standards
The number of broadband connections in India has seen a continuous growth since the beginning of 2006. As on Feb 2011, the total number of broadband and Internet users in the country has reached 11.47 million, constituting 0.9% of the population.
Mobile and Wireless technology has become a fire wave of the future to benefit every aspect of our life including business, personal, education, medical, entertainment as well as global communication. More than sixty percent of the world’s population has gone mobile using stylish and excellent featured handsets, computers, laptops, net books, palmtops, personal digital assistants, tablets, smart phones with GPS devices and wireless terminals. These equipments are delivered with WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G/4G services, virtual private networks and other advanced communications technologies.
