ShowerStart conveniently saves the water and

energy used while waiting for the shower to

become warm. With ShowerStart, a small

thermostatic shut-off valve (TSV) is all that’s

needed to save the resources bathers don’t

even realize they’re wasting. Better still,

conservation occurs without changing the

shower’s feel or flow.

When the water reaches 95°F,

ShowerStart automatically lowers

the flow to a trickle - saving hot

water until you’re ready to get in.

Nearly a minute’s worth of hot

water is lost per shower.

Behavioral waste is marked by the period

spent away from the shower after it’s hot

and is most appropriately expressed in

time. Independant field data from Lawrence

Berkley National Lab and a pilot study from

Pennsylvania Power and Light indicate

behavioral waste lasts about a minute.

That’s several gallons lost

per shower.

Behavioral waste time must ultimately be

converted to gallons for the purpose of making

water and energy savings calculations. When

making this conversion a showerhead’s flow rate

and other factors must be considered. Given

these variables, behavioral waste can range

from 1.7 to 3.4 gallons to as much as 2.5 to 4.9

gallons per shower.
