1. Start Femap. An empty model file should appear on your screen.
2. Open the Preferences dialog box with the File, Preferences
command. Select the Geometrytab. Set the Solid Geometry Scale
Factor to Meters (1,). Press OKto accept.

open the View Rotatedialog box. Select Dimetricand thenpress OK.

9. Continue to apply constraints to theholes on the ends of the control arm.
a) In the Create Constraints on Geometryselect the Pinned No Translationbutton, and then press OK.
b) press Cancelto exit the command.c) To rotate your model, you should be
able to see triangles designating that the
holes on the end of the bracket are
pinned (the letter T is displayed to
designate that translation is fixed.

10. Apply a load to the top of the control arma) Select the Model, Load, On Surface
command. The Create or Activate Loaddialogbox will open. Enter LS1 as the title and
press OK.
b) Select the top surface on top on the boss on
the right end of the control arm and press OKto confirm the selection.
c) In the Create Loads on Surfaces
dialog box, select Force.
a) Set the Directionto Normal to Surface.
b) Enter-250as the Magnitude.
c) Press OKto create the load.
d) Press Cancelor use the ESCkey to
exit the Load on Surface command.

11. Turn offdisplay ofallgeometry except for curves
and turn offnodes
a) In the View Toolbar, select the
View Visibilityicon to open the
View Quick Options orControl-Q
b) Select the Geometry Offbutton. This turns off the
display of all geometry.
c) Check the Curvecheckbox to
display curves.
d) Uncheck the Nodeoption.
e) Press Doneto close thedialog box.

12. Mesh the part
a) Select the Mesh, Geometry, Solidscommand. Since there is only onesolid part in your Femap model, you will not be prompted to select the
part(s) to mesh. If you have a Femap model with multiple solid parts,
you will get the Entity Selection Select Solids to Meshdialog box.
b) Press OKto generate the mesh. Your model should appear like thefollowing:

13. Toggle off the display of the mesh sizea) On the View Toolbar, pull down the
View Stylemenu and select Mesh Size.
14. Setup the linear statics analysis of the
part by creating an Analysis Set.
a) Select the Model, Analysiscommand.
b) In the Analysis Set Managerdialog
box, press the Newbutton.
c) In the Analysis Setdialog box, setAnalysis Typeto1. Static.
d) EnterTitleas Linear Statics.e) Press OKto close the dialog box.

15. Display the boundary conditions andoutput requests for this analysis set.

Analyzebutton. This will close the
Analysis Set Managerdialog box and
open the Analysis Monitorwindow.

17. Save the model in NASTRANformat (.NAS) and in NEiNastran
Editorpress F5 (Analysis Run ).
Editor displays the progress of the
simulation. Once the simulation is
complete, the results should be
automatically read into your Femap
model. You can confirm this by
looking at the NEiNastran
Termination Status, then close the
editor.
