EXAMINATION SCHEME LEADING TO M. Sc. (NURSING)

1) Period of Training:

Period of Training for M.Sc. (Nursing) courses shall be two years VIZ. 4 academic terms.

2) Attendance: The candidate should have to attend 75% theory & practicals. However 100%

of attendance for practical before the award of degree is mandatory.

3) Schedule of Examination:

University shall conduct not more than two examinations in a year. First year M.Sc. (Nursing) examination shall be conducted at the end of first academic year.

Second year M.Sc. (Nursing) examination shall be conducted one academic year after

passing first year examination.

4) Student guide ratio: Maximum of 1:4

6) Standard of Passing:

• To declare pass candidate should obtain 50% marks in each of the theory and practical separately.

• If the candidate fails in either practical or theory paper, he/she has to

reappear for both theory and practical.

• Maximum no. of attempts per subject is three (3) inclusive of first attempt.

The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed

4 years.

7) Practicals:

• Maximum number of 6 students per day per specialty.

• One internal and external should jointly conduct practical examination.

DISSERTATION GUIDELINE

1. Every candidate pursuing M.Sc. (Nursing) degree course is required to Carry

out work on a selected research project under the guidance of a recognized

post graduate teacher. The results of such a work shall be submitted in the

form of a dissertation.

2. The dissertation is aimed to train a postgraduate student in research method

and techniques. It includes identification of a problem, formation of a

hypothesis, search and review of literature, getting acquainted with recent

advances, designing of a research study, collection of data, critical analysis,

comparison of results and drawing conclusion.

3. Every candidate shall submit to the Registrar of the University in the prescribed

Proforma, title along with synopsis in four copies containing particulars of

proposed dissertation work within nine months from the date of

commencement of the course or on or before the dates notified by the

University. The synopsis shall be sent through the proper channel.

4. Such synopsis will be reviewed and the dissertation topic will be registered by

the University. No change in the dissertation topic or guide shall be made

without prior approval of the University.

5. The ethical committee (College level) approves the Topic.

6. Thesis (Whole) to be submitted at the end of nine months of the second year.

7. The dissertation should be written under the following headings:

g) Scope of study

Abstract

9. The written text of dissertation shall be not less than 75 pages excluding

references, tables, questionnaires and other annexure. It should be neatly

typed in double line spacing on one side of paper (A4 size, 8.27" x 11.69") Text

should be justified having font style 'Times New Roman / Courier' and font size

'12' with margin of 1.5" on all side. Dissertation should submitted with spiral

binding.

10. The dissertation shall be certified by the guide and head of the department /

Principal College of Nursing. Certificate issued by guide, counter signed by

H.O.D./ Principal College of Nursing certifying that work done by the candidate

has been carried out under the supervision of the guide to his/her entire

satisfaction, should be submitted separately to the University.

11. The identity of the candidate/teacher/department/college should not be

disclosed in the dissertation. The acknowledgment should not be bound in the

dissertation.

12. Four copies of dissertation along with CD (Soft copy) thus prepared shall be

submitted to the controller of examination, at the end of nine months of second

year programme, or before the dates notified by the University. In case the

dissertation is not accepted the same shall be communicated to the candidate

along with the reasons for rejection. The candidate may make necessary

correction and resubmit the dissertation at least one month prior to the

commencement of University examination.

13. The dissertation shall be valued by two examiners appointed by the University.

Both the examiners shall submit evaluation within a month to the university.

14. Guide: The academic qualification and teaching experience required for

recognition by this university as a guide for dissertation work is as per MUHS

Qualification for PG teacher in M.Sc. (Nursing). A co-guide may be included

provided the work requires substantial contribution from a concerned

department or from another Nursing College institution recognized for

teaching/Training by MUHS/INC. The co-guide qualification shall be as per

MUHS qualification.

15. Change of guide: In the event of a registered guide leaving the college for any

reason or in the event of death of guide, guide may be changed with prior

permission from the university.
