The drawings will help improve the visibility and appearance of the building and existing business, maintain the historic integrity of the building, and also make it functional for the owner’s current needs. Below are a few examples of the types of drawings that can be provided through the MMS design assistance. Preservation and Design Consultation This type of assistance is intended to serve as a “quick response” for property/business owners who will begin work on their buildings in the very near term but are seeking some basic guidance. Depending on the project, a simple sketch of recommended improvements (below left) could be provided along with other information such as options for paint schemes (below right) and a brief written summary of the discussion. Hart, MI Design Services Design services are intended to be more detailed than the consultation described above. The services will include a schematic façade drawing that makes recommendations for short- and/or long-term façade improvements covering major and minor maintenance and repair needs, paint colors, awning, signage, and lighting options. The drawings can also be used for broader goals of the local Main Street program. (See “Ideas for Utilizing Design Assistance”) The services will also include paint samples, example photos, and technical or supplemental information to support the recommendations shown in the drawing.
