Financial Performance
The current volatility of the global markets and their inherent risks necessitate perpetual monitoring of
an entity’s financial performance and continuous review of managerial decisions. In the same spirit of
managing the company’s resources and directing the company’s vision, Gorogang Plant Hire has always
taken prudent measures towards the achievement of financial stability and operational efficiency. The
results of the past three years have shown significant achievements underpinned by increased order
book and revenue growth.
Gross Profit Margin
The company has over the years displayed lucrative results with regard to its gross profit margins, as it
did in many other areas of quantitative and qualitative performance, reaching a high margin of 54% in
2013, against a reported industry median of around 20%. This has been due to the company’s effective
cost control measures and procurement policies that have translated to good, reliable and productive
relationships with all its service providers, and investors alike.

As the pricing strategy is one of the key success factors in the construction industry since
any underpricing may result in failure to deliver on a project or lower margins, the upturn in the
profits of Gorogang Plant Hire clearly demonstrates the company’s ability to manage and maintain
its operational efficiency and monitor its costs on a constant basis.
Return on Equity (ROE)
The return on equity, as a measure of how successful an entity has used equity to attain its key financial
objectives, that is, to remain viable in the long run and to increase the wealth of its owners, has always
been very high and commendable for Gorogang Plant Hire. This means that Gorogang shareholders
are reaping far greater benefits than in comparable entities.
Return on Asset
As the total asset base of Gorogang Plant Hire continues to grow, year in, year out, so have the returns
generated by the effective employment of these assets. The company’s performance in this regard has
always shown impressive results, reaching a high of 44.19% in 2013. This is due to the management’s
vision to transform the company into a formidable force in the construction industry in the next few
years, and to book itself a place among other major industry players.

Capital Structure
Our capital form is structured in order to ensure lower cost funding for our expansion, primarily in plant
and equipment. We always intend to achieve optimal capital structure by having the right mix of capital
sources (debt and equity) that maximizes shareholder value while minimizing the cost of capital, which
gives the company more power to acquire more funding from other sources should a need arise.
Debt-Equity Ratio
The debt-equity ratio measures the percentage of total debt, both long-term and short-term, to the
equity of the entity, and Gorogang Plant Hire has made tremendous strides in improving its debt-equity
position during the past 3 years of operation. From a high ratio of 80.98% in 2012 to a fair figure of
28.05%, the company has effectively and proudly surged forward towards self-sustenance to maintain a
healthy balance of its equity and liabilities. Maintaining such a position will cushion the company in times
of rising interest rates and particularly during downturn in the industry.

Interest Cover Ratio
The interest cover ratio measures the ability of an entity to meet its interest obligations from avail-
able profits, and is a measure of an entity’s solvency. Gorogang Plant Hire has done exceptionally well
in this respect in the past 3 years and steadfastly maintained a two digit ratio, ranging between 28.32%
and 39.14%. These attained ratios are impressively way above many other entities and they generously
create a comfort zone for our investors. This is attributed to the relentless efforts by Gorogang manage-
ment to generate more than adequate profits to sustain the company, even in turbulent times, as well
as sustain the livelihood of all its dedicated employees and all other related stakeholders., and to book itself a place among other major industry players.
Total Assets to Total Debt
This ratio indicates the number of times debt is covered by assets, and Gorogang Plant Hire has ex-
perienced continuous growth in its ratio during the past 3 years. From a ratio of 2.23 times in 2012,
it doubled to 4.57 in the 2014 financial year. As the higher the ratio means the lower the risk is for
investors and creditors, Gorogang Plant Hire has presented itself as a potential and trusted investment
vehicle and sustainable trading partner.

This achievement, as depicted in the foregoing chart, expectedly reflects itself as an exquisite long-term
trend that is increasingly steering the company in an upward corporate trajectory.
Our order book has consistently grown in the midst of the global recession and credit crisis that hap-
pened during 2008/2009. Although the construction sector has been hardest hit, our robust business
relationship and experienced human capital continues to give us a competitive advantage and thereby
ensuring business sustainability. All our projects have been completed within time, cost, quality and safety
standards approved.

Our order book has shown rapid growth over the years and in ensuring the sustainability
of the company, we have hugely invested in the plant and equipment by ensuring that we make
strategic choices that maximize cash flows, even at the expense of lowering near term earnings.
These assets contribute substantially towards the future of the company. Our capital structure has
shown how our equity has been reinvested into the company with the help of debt capitalizing on our
excellent credit rating as a result of the credit worthiness of the company. Our retained earnings has
grown over the years fully supported by efficiency in working capital management.
SHE Perspective

Gorogang Plant Hire regards every single incident occurring at its sites as serious and takes whatever
step that is necessary and appropriate in law to prevent and, whenever they occur, mitigate their adverse
effects. The company has established a safety management system aimed at achieving zero percent inci-
dents. Every project site has a very effective safety file underpinned by the SHE Policy (attached here-
under) and adherence to all Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and OHSAS 18001.
These are some of the activities we have performed and are still performing in our quest to achieving

Transformation at Gorogang Plant
Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (“BEE”) aims at substantially increasing black
participation at all levels in the economy. This strategic imperative tries to redress the imbalances
of the past by transferring more ownership, management and control of South Africa’s financial and
economic resources to the majority of its citizens. It also aims to ensure broader and meaningful
participation in the economy by black people.
Gorogang Plant Hire believes that BBBEE is a component of the broader transformation imperative in
our country. The company further believes that the starting point of our sustainable business is to un-
derstand the moment we are in, to understand the forces that shape the behaviour of our customers,
and to lead our employees toward using our resources to create sustainable value for those customers..
The following are key characteristics of our Empowerment Charter:
Greater representation at Ownership level•
Building a Talent Pipeline•

Social Investment at Gorogang
Gorogang Plant Hire is very aware of the wider socio-economic environment within which it operates,
and believes that corporate social investment is more than writing a cheque. It is about contributing to
changing the environment that Gorogang Plant Hire operates in and building future employees, clients
and suppliers.
Over the last year, Gorogang Plant Hire has been involved in several projects aimed at uplifting the
community. The company also donated money to various institutions and catered for the needs of
the poor, as well. We will continue to support projects in this financial coming year, and anticipate
spending 1.5% of NPAT on corporate social responsibility.
