So, it’s not just me in the photo. The Exeter Northcott now has an Associates Programme. Bright young companies, committed to the South West, who we’re supporting and helping to flourish in the midscale. We are investing in the future and you will have the pleasure of seeing these talented companies and their work first. Exeter Northcott is one of a select group of midscale theatres – places where directors, designers, actors, writers of note in every generation – current, past and future – cut their teeth. Two of the associates are in the programme this autumn. Metta Theatre open it with their version of Rob Biddulph’s BLOWN AWAY. Le Navet Bête will be performing with us for the first time in DICK TRACY and they’ll be opening a new show with us in Spring 2017, and Paddle Boat Theatre Company have begun working on our first Outreach project. Or as we put it – Reach Out. Watch out for more news.

Our model embraces production – this is our dynamo, our heart. We are all excited by the prospect of PETER PAN. It is a play I’ve always wanted to direct and we can’t wait to get into rehearsals. It’s also great to be offering so many opportunities to young people in our community.

We will continue to programme the best and widest range of quality work at the Northcott. This season we are delighted to welcome Complicite on their first visit to Exeter. Two of the best shows I’ve ever seen were by this company and set a benchmark for groundbreaking, innovative theatre. We are also delighted to be co-producing FRENCH WITHOUT TEARS with English Touring Theatre and opening the national tour. Don’t miss Rattigan at his comic best.

Best wishes,

Paul JepsonArtistic & Executive Director

Valentine loves Silvia and Proteus loves Julia – but Proteus is fickle, and falls for Silvia too. When Valentine

plots an elopement, Proteus betrays him and Valentine is banished and joins some outlaws in the forest. What are the

chances that he’ll be pursued by Silvia, and Silvia by Proteus, and Proteus by Julia, and that all will be waited upon – after a fashion – by their servants Speed and Launce and even

Launce’s dog, Crab?

This riotous new production is led by a joyful ensemble of players who will delight with songs,

romance and chaos, and hurl Shakespeare’s anarchic comedy into the 21st century.

Following its critically acclaimed sell out run at the Orange Tree Theatre, Terence Rattigan’s sparkling 1936 comedy opens a national tour at Exeter Northcott Theatre this autumn.

After a group of young men arrive at Monsieur Maingot’s French school for the summer to cram for the Diplomatic exam, their concentration is disrupted by beautiful visitor Diana Lake. Quelle surprise, they must learn another new language: girls.

At first, it seems pretty simple. Kit loves Diana and she loves him. And Bill. Oh, and darling Alan, of course. Then there’s Jack: she’s in love too. Meanwhile, Babe conceals his feelings… Not so simple after all.

A Pacifist’s Guide to the War on CancerBook by Bryony Kimmings and Brian LobelMusic by Tom Parkinson Lyrics by Bryony Kimmings Directed by Bryony Kimmings

Wed 28 September – Sun 2 October Wed - Sat evenings 7.30pm Sat matinee 2.30pm & Sun matinee 2pm

A Pacifist’s Guide to the War on Cancer is an all-singing, all-dancing examination of life with a cancer diagnosis. This brand new musical takes you on a whistle-stop tour through five unconventional stories about cancer, confronting the highs and lows of the scariest word we know.

Bryony Kimmings creates fearless theatre to provoke social change. Her collaboration with Complicite will look behind the poster campaigns and pink ribbons at the reality of cancer: the waiting rooms and chemo suites, the changed bodies, the family pressures and financial worries.

Expect big anthems, shiny costumes, blood, tears and real cancer patients in this rip-roaring, heartbreaking celebration of ordinary life and death, scratching at the battle metaphors that surround cancer to reveal what really lies beneath.

Ockham’s Razor produced by Turtle Key Arts presents

TIPPING POINT Mon 7 & Tue 8 November 7.30pm

Aerial circus company Ockham’s Razor presents its new full length show, Tipping Point. Set in the round, the action veers from catastrophe to mastery as five performers transform simple five-metre metal poles into a rich landscape of images. Poles are balanced on fingertips, hung from the roof, lashed, climbed, swung from and walked along, they become forests, cross-roads and pendulums. The performers must decide whether to rail against the chaos, struggling to exert order on a disordered world, or ride it out, allowing life to tilt towards the tipping point.

Ballet Black’s return to Exeter Northcott sees them collaborating with three bold and inventive choreographers to present an irresistible trilogy of narrative and abstract dance. As the centrepiece, Christopher Hamspson’s Storyville is the bittersweet fable of Nola, a farm girl who falls prey to unscrupulous characters and wordly desires in 1920s New Orleans, set to the haunting music of Kurt Weill.

The programme also includes two newly devised pieces; To Begin, Begin by Christopher Marney, fresh from McQueen, and Cristaux, a duet by Arthur Pita, who previously choreographed a hit version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Ballet Black’s eight-strong ensemble.

John Betjeman was the nation’s favourite poet.

Sand in the Sandwiches celebrates a man famous not only for light verse and laughter, but for his passions, his sense of purpose and his unforgettable poetry.

Edward Fox stars in this brand new stage play, bringing Betjeman’s poetry and his vivacious personality to life.

Embracing his delight for nostalgia and delicious irreverance, Sand in the Sandwiches travels through Betjeman’s boyhood, his adolescence, to life as Britain’s Poet Laureate, presenting a hugely entertaining insight into the world of this much-loved poet.

Double BAFTA winner Edward Fox (OBE) is one of this country’s most eminent actors. His distinguished career counts iconic British films such as The Day of the Jackal, A Bridge Too Far, Oh! What a Lovely War, to name a few.

Emmy Award winning writer Hugh Whitemore’s celebrated works for the stage and screen include Stevie, Pack of Lies and Breaking the Code.

Join the 7m theatregoers worldwide who have experienced “The most brilliantly effective spine-chiller you will ever encounter” Daily Telegraph.

Susan Hill’s acclaimed ghost story comes dramatically alive in Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious stage adaptation. This gripping production, directed by Robin Herford, is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror.

A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.

From Gangsta Granny Drama and Art workshops in the primaries to Exeter College International Baccalaureate students, we’ve had a fantastic time since last September building partnerships with schools, colleges, teachers and pupils. We’ve seen St Martin’s Primary Cranbrook dancing in the aisles, Nick Moran rehearsing with BTeC Performing Arts students at Exeter College, the Mark Bruce Company working with A Level Dance classes and Northern Ballet dancing with pre-school children. We’ve also been working in partnership with WESC Foundation – The Specialist Centre for Visual Impairment, on a six week drama project which involved learners performing their own piece of theatre to the whole school and college. We pass on our thanks to all the artists, performers, teachers, and most of all the young people, for their enthusiasm and congratulate them on their achievements.

METTA THEATRE COMPANY Following our sold out week of Metta Theatre’s Jungle Book, we are delighted that Metta have chosen to develop their next exciting project, Wind in the Willows, in Exeter this summer. “After the smash hit success of our Jungle Book earlier this year, Exeter Northcott Theatre was our first choice to begin developing our extraordinary new hip-hop musical of Wind In The Willows. Working with some of the same participants who were part of the Jungle Book community chorus we’re thrilled both to deepen our relationship with the local communities and to cement our new partnership with the theatre who have been instrumental in getting this exciting project off the ground.”Poppy Burton-Morgan, Artistic Director Metta Theatre

LOST BOYS!In preparation for our magical Christmas show, Peter Pan, we have been looking for a talented group of young people to play the parts of the Lost Boys and the two young Darling boys, Michael and John. We were inundated with applications for our audition process and we’d like to say thank you to all who applied. Visit our website’s education news pages to learn of their progress in the coming months as we all get ready for an awfully big adventure!

GETTING HERE IS EASYSituated at the heart of the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus, the Exeter Northcott Theatre is easier to get to than you might think, with good public transport links and plenty of FREE parking a short distance from the theatre.

Getting here by busThe D and H buses run from Exeter City Centre direct to our theatre 7 days a week including Bank Holidays. However we recommend you catch the D bus if you are travelling from the city centre as the route is more direct.

The last D services from the city centre to Exeter Northcott for evening shows Monday to Saturday are at 6.30pm (for 7pm shows), 7pm (for 7.30pm shows) and 7.30pm (for 8pm shows). Sunday D services start at 9am, then 9.30am and then at 55 and 25mins past the hour until 11.10pm.

H RouteSt Davids Station - City Centre - RD&E Hospital

Getting home by bus The D bus leaves the bus stop opposite the front entrance of the theatre on North Park Road at 21mins and 51mins past the hour after 6pm and continues until 11.51pm (Mon - Sat) and 11.10pm (Sundays) to the city centre, ready for you to connect to other city centre late night services. For more information about this bus service, including updates to timetabling, please call 01392 427711 or visit www.stagecoachbus.com.

Stocker Road is open to pedestrians and cyclists only. Vehicles should enter the campus from Prince of Wales Road via Streatham Drive and then The Queen’s Drive, before joining North Park Road and then Rennes Drive (please see map below).

The biggest demand for parking at Streatham Campus is expected to be between 9am and 6pm from Monday to Friday during the University term. For this reason we now only schedule the following daytime shows: Green Matinees – please show your support for the environment and use Public Transport to

attend these discounted midweek matinee shows; School Matinees – we advise groups to travel to the theatre by coach for these performances.

This map will help you find the car parks. For up to date information about planning your visit please contact the Box Office on 01392 726363, visit our website or check the information we send you with your tickets.
