THE MERCURY WORLD 2006 BTO AWARDS

The ultimate proof that Mercury BTO solutions optimize business outcomes is you—the innovative IT professionals who use our products to make your companies more

successful. To honor your efforts and recognize your expertise, we’re presenting the 2006 Mercury World BTO Awards. The following pages announce the finalists and

summarize their projects. Be sure to be at Mainstage on Wednesday morning for the awards ceremony to see who wins.

BTO BEST PRACTiCES AWARD

In a time when growing complexity and accelerating change make it ever more difficult

to deliver high-quality, high-performance applications, success depends on automated,

repeatable, cost-effective IT processes. The BTO Award for Best Practices honors IT

teams that have helped their companies develop and adopt best practices to ensure

that processes such as quality management, service-level management, and change

management optimize business outcomes.

BTO FOR TECHNOLOGY iNNOVATiON AWARD

IT technology innovators help the businesses they serve keep pace with constant change.

They take on the tricky task of winning the benefits that new IT environments, technologies,

and architectures promise while at the same time coping with the complexity and mitigating

the risk that new technologies always bring. The BTO Award for Technology Innovation

recognizes IT teams that have gone out on the technological edge to help their companies

meet competitive challenges, shorten time to market, or comply with regulatory mandates.

BTO TEAMWORk AWARD

It takes multiple teams to bring a single application to production, and today’s businesses

depend on hundreds of applications that share a complex mix of computing resources in

multiple locations. That makes teamwork critical to both IT and business success. The BTO

Teamwork Award goes to IT organizations that have found ways to enable distributed teams

to communicate and collaborate across geographical boundaries, across applications, and

across the application development lifecycle to help their companies deliver business results.

BTO RUNNiNG iT LikE A BUSiNESS AWARD

With business outcomes growing ever more dependent on technology, IT departments

are stepping up to play a larger role in the success of the business, transitioning from

technology provider to business partner. We present the BTO Award for Running IT Like a

Business to IT teams that have made the strategic shift by aligning IT efforts with business

needs and measuring success according to business-centric service level—so that IT is

TRACK DESCRIPTIONS

Mercury World 2006 is a significant educational opportunity. You can choose from 10 different tracks with nearly 100 unique sessions delivered by Mercury customers, partners, and product experts.

Track session highlights this year include our Virtual ITIL track for companies exploring the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework; a Business Applications track to deal with the pressing issues surrounding the implementation of business-critical SAP and Oracle applications; a Service Management Track that delves into issues surrounding IT service management (ITSM) and business service management (BSM); and an SOA track for those who want to learn more about the benefits and challenges of services-oriented architectures (SOA). In addition, we have tracks on IT Governance, Quality Management Application Performance Management, and much more.

APPLICATION PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Identifying application problems before they affect end users is a top priority for operations and application support teams. This track will show you how to optimize the availability and performance of your mission-critical applications. From end-user management to diagnostics, you’ll learn how to proactively avoid performance and availability issues. And we’ll show you how, when problems do arise, to quickly identify and resolve them to minimize business impact. You’ll also learn how to leverage Mercury Business Availability Center to optimize end-user productivity while maximizing IT efficiency for mission-critical packaged applications (SAP, Oracle, Siebel, etc.) and non-packaged applications (J2EE, .Net, etc.).

BUSINESS APPLICATIONS: SAP, ORACLE Mercury for SAP Solutions supports the entire business application lifecycle. Our solutions help customers mitigate the risk of implementations, upgrades, and changes as well as reduce change cycle times and ensure compliance with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) across end-to-end business processes that span SAP and non-SAP applications. This track will explore how to complement and extend the value of SAP Solution Manager while supporting SAP environments such as ERP, CRM, SCM, PLM, SRM, NetWeaver, ESA, and Business Process Platform. Hear first-hand from customers across various industries who are working with Mercury to ensure their SAP investments produce intended business outcomes.

FUNCTIONAL TESTING IT applications never stand still. They are constantly being enhanced and extended for business advantage. But with flat testing headcounts and ever-shrinking QA cycles, how can a QA team fully regression-test applications manually? This track is dedicated to the art and science of functional testing. Topics range from trends in QA testing to deep dives on Mercury technologies. Sessions focus on products, solutions, innovations, best practices surrounding Mercury Business Process Testing (the next-generation approach to test automation), and Mercury QuickTest Professional.

IT GOVERNANCE Control, compliance, and alignment with business priorities are key aspects of effective IT governance. By automating best practices and decision-making frameworks, Mercury IT Governance Center enables organizations to lower the cost of routine operational or “keep-the-lights-on” activities and shift spending to strategic activities that add business value. This track will focus on how customers have implemented Mercury IT Governance Center to provide real-time IT visibility, automate their portfolio and program management processes, manage change across the enterprise, and enable industry-standard best practices such as ITIL to reduce the risk, cost, and time spent delivering IT services.

ITIL VIRTUAL TRACKBusiness today demands agility to respond to growth, mergers, market shifts, competitive threats, regulatory compliance requirements, and more. In the midst of increasing change and complexity, IT departments are looking for ways to meet this demand by implementing cost-effective, repeatable, compliant, sustainable processes. And many of them are turning to the ITIL framework in order to implement best practices for ITSM.

Mercury BTO Enterprise allows customers to automate IT processes for cost-effective and repeatable business outcomes and use service-level agreements (SLAs) to align IT efforts with business goals. It gives them visibility and control of IT services and their infrastructure and application dependencies. And it enables them to manage aggregated demand across the lifecycle and reduce business risk by taking a lifecycle approach to change management.

This virtual track for ITIL will pull across all the other Mercury World 2006 tracks to enable interested attendees to leverage the best of the sessions related to ITIL initiatives and customer success.

OUTSOURCING VIRTUAL TRACKBusinesses are shifting from outsourcing for cost reduction to strategic sourcing for business value. Strategic sourcing is the practice of seeking the optimal mix of in-house, outsourced, and off-shore IT projects. And it represents yet another opportunity for IT to optimize business outcomes. Our Virtual Outsourcing Track pulls relevant sessions from other tracks to make up a schedule that can help you learn to gain visibility over a combination of in-house and outsourced projects, govern a mixed portfolio in alignment with business goals, ensure consistent quality standards, and manage and monitor in-house and outsourced applications based on business results and service levels.

PERFORMANCE ASSURANCE Everyone knows performance testing is critical to the business. However, most organizations are not getting the maximum benefit from their performance testing efforts. They need new ways to maximize the effectiveness of the tester while keeping costs under control. This session provides valuable insights into new and better ways to ensure that applications scale and meet the needs of the business. Whether you’re running Mercury LoadRunner on a project-by-project basis or working in a performance center of excellence, you will gain from participating in this track. Track sessions include customer best practices and real-world scenarios as well as coverage of new features and product roadmaps for Mercury LoadRunner, Mercury Performance Center, and Mercury Diagnostics.
