Additional exploration investment from other parties is expected and could lead to new discoveries off Peninsula Malaysia which has seen a 30% rise in demand for natural gas in recent years and the development of the North Malay Basin project follows the recently introduced incentives by the government.
Factors driving demand include the increase of Capital Expenditure by PETRONAs and the increase in deepwater discoveries in the last few years, where almost 40% of new discoveries in the last five years are in deepwater.
These activities are poised to spur business opportunities in the oil and gas industry and will promote upstream investment in the country.
