Thai Organics
In 2010, the Thai market for organic agricultural goods had an estimated worth of $200 million USD; $120 million USD from its export value and $80 million USD from its domestic consumption. In addition, there are an increasing number of hotels, spas, restaurants and travel businesses in the service sector using more organic products. Currently, organics are farmed on approximately 18,895 hectares in Thailand. Plans are in place to increase the organic area by 3,200 hectares in 3 regions with special emphasis on:
Thai Hom-Mali Thung Kula Rong-Hai Rice (Thai Jasmine rice) produced in the Thung Kula Rong-Hai area which covers Thailand’s five core north-eastern provinces including Roi Et, Mahasarakam, Surin, Yasothon and Si Sa Ket
Thai Hom-Mali Rice grown in the Northeast and North of Thailand
Sangyod Phatthalung Rice, Leb Nok Pattani Rice, Hom Kra-Dung-Nga Narathiwas Rice and Leuang Pratew Rice (Specialty Rice) grown in the South of Thailand
Vegetables, Fruits, Tea and Herbs grown in the North of Thailand
Livestock: beef cattle, dairy cattle, buffalo, pigs, goats, chickens and ducks for both eggs and meat
Freshwater fisheries: Nile tilapia, Gourami fish, and frogs in rice fields which are rich in protein for do-mestic consumption. Freshwater aquaculture also generates extra income to local farmers.
Food: rice, vegetables, fruits, tea, coffee and coconut Non-Food: cotton, health & beauty products, and plush toys Services: restaurants, hotels, resorts, spas, and green shops offering eco-friendly products

MAIN EXPORT MARKETS
Thailand’s largest export market for organic Thai products is the European Union. Other key export markets are Japan, the United States and Singapore.
The main export products to foreign countries are:
United States - canned brown rice, processed fruits, coffee and tea beverages
United Kingdom - milk products, fresh fruits and vegetables
Scandinavia - young corn, asparagus, coffee, tea and spices
The area of Koh Pa-Ngan or Pa-Ngan island in Surat-Thani province is approximately 16,800 hectares.
It is an island in the Gulf of Thailand off the South East coast of Thailand, halfway between the islands
of Koh Samui and Koh Tao.
Koh Pa-Ngan is known as a land of coconut trees. The project focuses on turning Koh Pa-Ngan into the country’s first organic island.

The Project Goals for 2020 include:
Hotels, resorts, restaurants, and spa centers go green and become environmentally friendly through the selection of food materials and other products, e.g., organic dishes, as well as the promotion of eco-conscious excursions.
Offering environmentally friendly courses such as organic gardening classes in schools.
Increase the number of organic products for domestic consumption and sales
Agricultural land to be fully dedicated to and certified for organic farming
