  • Biography: Soren Kierkegaard

Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) was a Danish philosopher, author, and theologian. Kierkegaard was born to Ane Sorensdatter Lund Kierkegaard and Michael Pedersen Kierkegaard in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was engaged to Regine Olsen, but ended the relationship before the wedding. That relationship affected him greatly and influenced some of his later work. He dies suddenly in Copenhagen, Denmark at the age of 42.

  • Biography: Friedrich Nietzsche

Friedrich Nietzsche (1905-1980) Nietzsche was born in Röcken Bei Lützen, Prussia to Franziska Oehler and Carl Ludwig Nietzsche. He was interested in the enhancement of individual and cultural health, and believed in life, creativity, power, and the realities of the world we live in, rather than those situated in a world beyond.

  • Quote Analysis: Jose “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how ” ~Friedrich Nietzsche

Having a how to a why is almost the complete essence of Existentialism. By

questioning the decisions and events that occur, one is able to closely define

their existence. Existentialism is mainly about finding the purpose of why one

is here and why did God or any supernatural being put them in the world.

The quality of using one’s curiosity to understand the meaning of why they do

certain things, and why they want to achieve certain goals. Being able to have

a why can lead to the how, in which is the ultimate plan in figuring out the

reasons for the actions taken. As one continues to wander ,the motives that

drove them to choose their path. This can also shows that the discovery of

their existence can ultimately be presented to them.

  • Quote Analysis: Diana

“Life has its own hidden forces which you can only discover by living.” ~Soren Kierkegaard In order for us to find out why we are here, we have to know what we

want to do with our lives . In order to understand what we want to do in life and how to peruse our goals, one must first have the experience. Soren Kierkegaard’s quote says you have to discover life in order to find the meaning in your life. I agree with the quote because in order to achieve your goal or to gain some personal meaning ,you must first continue your journey in life. As one grows by the experiences of hardship and happiness, the future events that occur can be determined by these hidden forces that have lead to those certain events.

  • Quote Analysis: Daisy

“Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.” ~ Soren Kierkegaard

We shouldn’t let our lives be centered on why we are here, but instead should be centered on enjoying life. We should go with the flow and let life come at us the way it is supposed to. This relates to Existentialism because it is the belief of why we are here and what our purpose on life is. Life is a journey that should be lived in the moment.

I agree with this quote because life is something that should be lived everyday instead of questioned. I agree about living life in the moment because , everything else is uncertain and plans are always changing for the future.
