make sure we end the school year on a positive note.
Thank you for all your help to ensure that your child
(ren) are doing their best each day at school.

Mrs. Scott says… Hello All, Spring has sprung! I hope all are enjoying this beautiful weather. As the
flowers are popping up each day, many things are popping here at Saint Pius X too! We are in our last quar-ter of the school year, students are preparing for sacraments, and end of the year activities are being sched-uled. The calendar is filling up quickly. Now, more than ever, it is important to stay current on school hap-penings and to check our website for important dates. Our Rosary club is doing a fabulous job and more students have joined! So far we have distributed 67 in the back of the church, 47 to CCD, 35 to 2nd grade. We also mailed 33 to the Carmelite nuns for them to distrib-ute and repaired two rosaries for a teacher. Our Science Fair week has been set for May 9-12. This is a mandatory project for grades 6-8. However, oth-er students in grades 1-5 are welcome to participate and enter their project too. Information will be going home next week. There are many website that give excellent information on how to begin a project, the set up and materials needed. If you have a child that is interested, I encourage you to take advantage of this and begin researching an appropriate project for your child’s age and grade. A few things to remember: April 12 is our school’s CiCi’s night and April 21 is our Chili’s night. Please sup-port our school by eating out those nights! Thank you all for your continued support.
Ms. Wahlstrom says… Hello Parents – Today, when the latest campaign trail blunder or political
scandal goes viral, your kids will likely hear about it before you do. Like everything else, they will use social me-dia as their main news source. The concern for most parents however is whether or not what their child is read-ing in social media is credible. Here are a few tips how you can help your kids become media-savvy contribu-tors in democracy. Elementary School Kids
Seek out kid-friendly news. Turn to news sources designed for kids, such as Time for Kids or Scho-lastic Kids Press Corps to help breakdown the events of the day in age appropriate terms.
Decode ads. When a political ad comes on TV or the computer screen, talk about the claims the ad is mak-ing and how music and visuals are used to persuade people. It’s OK to talk about why there are so many negative ads -- and why they work.
Read kid-friendly books about American politics. Two recommendations for you: Bad Kitty for President and The Founding Fathers: Those Horse-Ridin’, Fiddle-Playin’ Book-Readin’, Gun-Totin’ Gentlemen Who Started America
Middle School Kids
Watch one or more of the many televised candidate debates. Make sure you take time to discuss the issues in the debate and question them during the commercials and after it's over.
Talk about political advertising. Discuss how a political ad is like a regular commercial selling a product – does it actually sell the candidate? Discuss how the ads can influence viewers’ decisions and possibly the outcome on an election.
Ask how elections really work. Talk to your kids about their own experiences with student or school type elections. Discuss similarities between elections held at school and the state and national levels – even bring up the question about popularity and whether or not they feel it impacts the results.
