VISIT TO THE CHESHIRE HOME & HOME FOR THE AGED
Life gives us only a few chances to touch someone’s heart and make
them happy. Once such opportunity presented itself to us on 20th
December 2016 when our school organized a visit to ‘The Home for the
Aged’ located at Mahakali Road, Andheri (E).
Young and healthy, as I was, little did I know about the difficulties faced
by the old and the infirm. Being among the aged really made me
understand their plight better and appreciate the value of life. What
surprised me though was that contrary to my stereotyped opinion about
the elderly people being boring and melancholic; they were quite lively
and blissful. I half-expected them to be morose and resigned to their fate
because they were in their twilight years, but these senior citizens were so
very feisty with a zest for life! Their cheerful faces and warm smiles
melted any coldness or indifference I had in my heart. Hugging them
made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This was a moment of truth in
my life, indeed an epiphany. At that moment I decided that this is how I
want to grow old; gracefully and with dignity. As I headed home that day,
I felt that I had received more than I gave. I was taking away two things
which were priceless. A new found respect for the elderly and a desire to
live life to the fullest each day so that, when I grow to be a senior citizen I
would be like these wonderful golden people.

A school trip to Cheshire Home was decided and we were supposed to go on 20th December. Little did we know that this trip would change our perspectives of life. The trip was short but moving. Many people, we realized, are specially challenged but they do not let their disabilities stand in the way of their goals. These people are more content and happy than we are. They find happiness in the smallest of things and their bright smiles light up the dark. They are beautiful, whole people – in no way different from us. It was a pleasure to interact with them. They do not conform to society’s standard of ‘normal’ but in truth they are as normal as we believe ourselves to be. The trip was an eye-opener that gave us happiness and sorrow both alike. But all I know is; that day, I met the real stars of the world, the stars that spread joy and smiles.

'A smile is the biggest treasure'. I witnessed this saying the day our school took us to The Cheshire Home, which is a house for the disabled people. But after meeting them, I realized that they were specially able. Even after going through the hardships in life, they always smile and live life to the fullest. Their smiles were like the bright North Star in the stressful life of the tenth standard students. The same day our school provided us the privilege of visiting young adults and children who aren't as lucky as we are. We danced with them to our hearts’ content and sang poems and songs with them too. I can rightfully say that it was the most memorable and enlightening day of my life.

Sports For All Champions 2016

Academy ended at the top of the school
ranking table to be crowned as the champions
of Sports For All 2016 which concluded at the
DY Patil Stadium on Monday, 19th December
2016.
The 22 day-long sporting extravaganza for
inter-school sports which started on November
28 saw Vissanji Academy win 20 gold medals,
18 silver and 21 bronze medals. It amassed a
total of 196 points to edge out a strong
challenge from Vibgyor High School, Goregaon,
and Jamnabai Narsee School, which finished
second and third, respectively, on the points
table.
