PSSA Multiple Choice

PA Standard 2.11.8.C. Continue a pattern of numbers or objects that could be extended infinitely.

In the Fibonacci Sequence 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8

What is the 10th term of the sequence?

a. 15 c. 55

b. 35 d. 65

Do Now

To begin solving the sequence, I drew four lines to make sure that I had ten terms in the sequence.

Next, I examined the relationship between the first three numbers (1 1 2). The first and second numbers added up to the next number in the series.

Then, I tested the pattern to see if it was true for the rest of the numbers.

Finally, I continued the pattern by adding the two previous numbers to decide on the following number. This pattern was repeated until the tenth term was determined. The correct response is 55.

Laptop Activity- Using PowerPoint, create a slideshow for the classroom's Philly Math Word Wall.

Be Creative. Students may use free math clip art, illustrate, or use the Photo Booth camera for the visual. You are encouraged to use the Record a Sound PowerPoint feature or GarageBand to enhance the slides.

Each slide needs the term, its definition, a visual and hopefully a related sound.
