    QURANIC INTRODUCTION

    OF

    THE QURAN

Do they not consider the Qur-an (with care)? Had it been from other than Allah, theywould surely have found therein much discrepancy. 4:82

When the Qur-an is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace: that ye mayreceive Mercy. 7:204

    Al-Araf* * * * *

This Qur-an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah; on the contrary it isa confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book- wherein there is no doubt - from the Lord of the Worlds. 10:37

If there were a Qur-an with which mountains were moved, or the earth were clovenasunder, or the dead were made to speak, (this would be the one!) but, truly, theCommand is with Allah in all things! Do not the Believers know, that, had Allah (so)willed, He could have guided all mankind (to the Right)? But the Unbelievers, neverwill disaster cease to seize them for their (ill) deeds, or to settle close to their homes, until the Promise of Allah come to pass, for, verily, Allah will not fail in His promise.13:31

    Ar-Rad* * * * *

When thou does read the Qur-an, seek Allah's protection from Satan the RejectedOne. 16:98

    An-Nahl

    * * * * *

Verily this Qur-an doth guide to that which is most right (or stable), and giveth theglad tidings to the Believers who work deeds of righteousness, that they shall have amagnificent reward; 17:9

    Al-Israa* * * * *

We have explained (things) in various (ways) in this Qur-an, in order that they mayreceive admonition, but it only increases their flight (from the Truth)! 17:41

    Al-Israa* * * * *

We send down (stage by stage) in the Qur-an that which is a healing and a mercy tothose who believe: to the unjust it causes nothing but loss after loss. 17:82

And We have explained to man, in this Qur-an, every kind ofsimilitude: yet the greater part of men refuse (to receive it) except with ingratitude!17:88-89

    Al-Israa* * * * *

Verily this Qur-an doth explain to the Children of Israel most of the matters in whichthey disagree. And it certainly is a Guide and a Mercy to those who believe. 27:76

Verily We have propounded for men, in this Qur-an, every kind of parable: but if thoubring to them any Sign, the Unbelievers are sure to say, "Ye do nothing but talkvanities." Thus does Allah seal up the hearts of those who understand not. 30:58-59

Allah has revealed (from time to time) the most beautiful Message in the form of aBook, consistent with itself, (yet) repeating (its teaching in various aspects): the skinsof those who fear their Lord tremble thereat; then their skins and their hearts dosoften to the celebration of Allah's praises. Such is the guidance of Allah: He guidestherewith whom He pleases, but such as Allah leaves to stray, can have none toguide. Is, then, one who has to fear the brunt of the Penalty on the Day of Judgment(and receive it) on his face, (like one guarded therefrom)? It will be said to the wrong-doers: "Taste ye (the fruits of) what ye earned!"Those before them (also) rejected

(revelation), and so the Punishment came to them from directions they did notperceive. So Allah gave them a taste of humiliation in the present life, but greater isthe Punishment of the Hereafter, if they only knew! We have put forth for men, in thisQur-an every kind of Parable, in order that they may receive admonition. (It is) a Qur-an in Arabic, without any crookedness (therein): in order that they may guard againstEvil. 39:23-28

    Az-Zumar* * * * *

A Book, whereof the verses are explained in detail; a Qur-an in Arabic, for peoplewho understand; Giving Good News and Admonition: yet most of them turn away, and so they hear not. 41:3-4

Behold, We turned towards thee a company of Jinns (quietly) Listening to the Qur-an:when they stood in the presence thereof, they said, "Listen in silence!" when the(reading) was finished, they returned to their people, to warn (them of their sins).

They said, "O our people! we have heard a Book revealed after Moses, confirmingwhat came before it: it guides (men) to the Truth and to a Straight Path. "O our

    Al-Ahqaf* * * * *

Do they not then earnestly seek to understand the Qur-an, or are their hearts lockedup by them? 47:24

We know best what they say; and thou art not one to overawe them by force. Soadmonish with the Qur-an such as fear My Warning! 50:45

And We have indeed made the Qur-an easy to understand and remember: then isthere any that will receive admonition? 54:17, 22, 32, 40

Had We sent down this Qur-an on a mountain, verily, thou wouldst have seen ithumble itself and cleave asunder for fear of Allah. Such are the similitudes which Wepropound to men, that they may reflect. 59:21

    WORD BY AUTHOR

Having had a glance at the Quranic Introduction of the Quran (pages 4 to 8) it can behonestly concluded that the Quran is the word of Allah [SWT] for the guidance of good

humans and for all times to come. Its knowledge in every era, therefore, is only in the bestinterest of all humans. The intellectual capacity in respect of the Quran has to be translated in

to a system meeting the needs of every era so that the humans can live in peace and harmony

with their selves and their surroundings in accordance with the desire of their Creator. In so

doing, they would also be earning the favours and blessings of Allah Almighty not only in

this world but also in the life hereafter.

Surah Al-Fatihah happens to be the opening of the Quran and termed by the ProphetMuhammad [PBUH] as its summary. I believed this saying of the Prophet [PBUH] but was

not having the inner satisfaction without somehow proving it physically. The present effort of

explaining Al-Fatihah from the Quran is a venture in this direction as well.

Recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah in each Rakt of every prayer, five times a day at theleast is mandatory for every Muslim. Such being the importance of this Surah, it is onlyreasonable that we understand (or at least make an effort to be aware of) the meanings and the

messages contained in this Surah; to appreciate and benefit from what all it has for us.

Comprehension in depth is the first step towards accepting or rejecting any piece ofliterature, idea or work of some importance. Its translation in to a system can then be ventured

allowing its followers to lead a successful life. Realizing the peculiar format of the Quran

where complete information on a particular topic is not available in one chapter, but is spread

over the entire revealed scripture, it is intended in this book to collect the entire learning from

the Quran concerning Surah Al-Fatihah and present the same to the readers for further

    contemplation.

To begin with, in this volume, we will concentrate on the following aspects of Al-Fatihah that correspond to the chapters of this book as well:-

Praise be to Allah. The Cherisher and Sustainer of the

    Worlds.

Lord of the Day of Judgment.

Thee do we Worship. And Thine Aid we seek.

    Guide us. The Straight Way.

    Those bestowed with Allahs Grace.

Those who qualify for Allahs Wrath & those who go

    astray.

How to go about understanding the words and the verses of Al-Fatihah? For this, let usturn to the Quran itself. Below mentioned Verse 46 of Al-Nur and Verse 33 of Al-Furqan,

that are the 24th and 25th Surahs of the Quran, provide guidance in this respect:-

We have indeed sent down Signs that make things manifest: and Allah guides whom Hewills to a Way that is straight. 24:46Al-Nur

And no question do they bring to thee but We reveal to thee the truth and the bestexplanation (thereof). 25:33

    Al-Furqan

Deliberations on the above mentioned two verses reveal that Allah Almighty has sentdown the Signs that make things clear and has revealed in the Book the Truth coupled withThe Best Explanation concerning any question arising in human mind. We will, make an

effort, therefore, to comprehend the contents of the title of this book from the Quran itself by

locating the particular word or group of words of these verses in the Quran. This would be

followed by comprehending and collating the meanings and the messages elaborated therein

for drawing pertinent conclusions in the backdrop of the Signs of our Creator. A summary of

these conclusions will place before us the gist of the learning from the Quran enabling us to

    draw lessons for our understanding.

The conclusions and the lessons drawn in this book are my humble effort and by nomeans an exhaustive and all encompassing work in any manner. The readers are requested to

exercise their mind and add to the lessons and the conclusions in the backdrop of theirlearning and understanding. It will be highly appreciated in case the worthy readers could

share their views with the author for further learning of the other readers in subsequent

    issues of the book.

English translation of The Holy Quran, in this venture, is taken from the work ofAbdullah Yusuf Ali printed in The United States of America by the American International

Printing Company, Washington, D. C. of 1934 edition.

    CHAPTER ONE

PRAISE BE TO ALLAH, THE CHERISHER AND SUSTAINER OF THE WORLDS

    SECTION ONE

    PRAISE BE TO ALLAH

    Saying implies following:-

    1. Declaring that praise of any nature and in any context owes its legitimacy to Allah[SWT] and Allah [SWT] alone.

    2. Admitting without any uncertainties that all that is there in the heavens, on the earthand in between them belongs to Allah Almighty.

    3. Confirming with absolute conviction that all gains are from Allah [SWT] and alllosses are due to own misdoings.

    4. Expression of happiness and contentment of the highest order in whatever state onemay be at the moment.

    5. Displaying willing subordination and complete submission in all matters to Allah

Almighty without any discontent, fear or sorrow.6. Reposing complete confidence with absolute satisfaction that Allahs handling of all

matters and at all times is of the perfectly good order in all walks of ones life.

    7. Making it known to all that praise is prelude to establishing a gainful communication

with everyone in this life more so with Allah Almighty.

We now go over those verses contained in the Holly Quran that have a mention of

Praise be to Allah. This will help in grasping the meanings, the implications and the

message that our Creator desires for us in these words. To begin with we have the second

verse of the first Surah of the Quran that is the topic of this chapter. Thirty-nine more verses

would be studied before summarising the conclusions from these.

    Points for Contemplation

    1. Above mentioned nineteen verses [1:2; 6:1-3; 18:1-2; 28:70; 29:63; 31:25; 37:180-182; 34:1-2; 35:1-2; 45:36-37; 64:1] communicate that all praise is for Allah [SWT]

    as:-

    a. He created the heavens and the earth out of nothing and adds to the Creationas He pleases. Created the humans from clay and decreed a stated tem for them all

and is to have another determined term in His presence for them.

    b. He is the cherisher and sustainer of the worlds, the Most Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving. Sends down rain, gives life and is The Maker of the darkness and the

    light.

    14

  • 8/14/2019 Explanation Of - Al-Fatihah

    15/36

    c. He sent the Quran containing plain warning of terrible punishment as wellas giving Glad Tidings.

    d. He is the Lord of Honour and Power. Owns Dominion, Praise and Gloryand all that is in the heavens and on the earth. He is The Allah [SWT] on the heavens

and on the earth, Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom and knowing everything. Has theknowledge of all that the humans hide and reveal and earn through their deeds.

    e. He made the angels as messengers with two, three or four paired wings(enormous power).

    2. It is only ironic and astonishing that the humans have doubts within their selvesabout Allah [SWT] after having known all that has been stated above.

    20-23

Before thee We sent (Messengers) to many nations, and We afflicted the nations with

suffering and adversity, that they might learn humility. When the suffering reached them fromUs, why then did they not learn humility? On the contrary their hearts became hardened, andSatan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them. But when they forgot the warning theyhad received, We opened to them the gates of all (good) things, until, in the midst of theirenjoyment of Our gifts, on a sudden, We called them to account, when lo! they were plunged indespair! Of the wrongdoers the last remnant was cut off. Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher ofthe Worlds. 6:42-45

    Al-An am

    Points for Contemplation

    3. History of the past many a nations bears witness to the fact that Allah [SWT] madethem suffer and also enjoy His gifts. The object of afflicting humans with suffering

and adversity was and is to make them learn humbleness so that their hearts soften to

the teachings of their Lord and they also learn to be affectionate to other humans. They would thus avoid their losses in this world and the ultimate destruction in the

life hereafter. Those who do not pay attention to the warnings of good behaviour and

conduct conveyed by Allahs messengers are provided in abundance and then left by

Allah [SWT] to enjoy the good things of this world for some time. Such people are

however suddenly taken to account for their misdoings. This explains the object of

leading life with all the restraints and restrictions (that are in reality for the good of

all humans) imposed by religion in this life and also the concept of life hereafter! It

also confirms that any one who can grasp all this cannot but praise Allah [SWT].

    6:42-45

But those who believe and work righteousness - no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear - they will be Companions of the Garden, therein to dwell (for ever). And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury - beneath them will be riversflowing - and they shall say: "Praise be to Allah, Who hath guided us to this (felicity): never

could we have found guidance, had it not been for the guidance of Allah: indeed it was thetruth that the Messengers of our Lord brought unto us." And they shall hear the cry: "Behold!the Garden before you! ye have been made its inheritors, for your deeds (of righteousness)."7:42-43

    Al-Araf- - - - -26-27

Those who believe, and work righteousness, their Lord will guide them because oftheir Faith: beneath them will flow rivers in Gardens of Bliss. Fatir

    Points for Contemplation

    4. Those who believe and work righteousness will be Companions of the Gardens withrivers flowing underneath and will dwell therein forever. Peace will be their greetingover there. Allah [SWT] will remove from their hearts any sense of injury and

    b. The Maker of the darkness and the light. The one, who created the humans

from clay, decreed a stated tem for them and is to have another determined term inHis presence for all of them.

    c. The one having knowledge of all that the humans hide and reveal, and He

also has the knowledge of what the humans earn through their deeds.

    d. The Allah [SWT] on the heavens and on the earth, Exalted in Power, Full ofWisdom, the Most Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving, sends down rain and gives life.

The Lord of Honour and Power, to Whom belong Dominion and to Whom belong

    Praise and Glory.

    e. The creator of angels as messengers with two, three or four paired wings(having tremendous power to move about).

    f. The One Who revealed the Book allowing no crookedness in it that warns

of terrible punishment as well as gives Glad Tidings to all humans.2. Those who understand the greatness and glory of Allah [SWT] say, Praise be to

Allah. 17:111; 27:59; 27:93. It is the way of prophets of Allah [SWT] to say Praise

be to Allah on learning their prayers having been granted, on being bestowed

    knowledge and on having been saved from the people who do wrong. 14:39; 23:28;

27:15. Prayers to Allah [SWT] must begin with His Praise. Those rewarded with the

living in the Gardens and also the angels surrounding the Throne recite Praise to

    Allah [SWT]. 39:74-75; 40:65

    3. Those who believe and work righteousness will be Companions of the Gardens withrivers flowing underneath and will dwell therein for ever. Peace will be their greeting

over there. Allah [SWT] will remove from their hearts any sense of injury and

sorrow. It is such people who will utter Glory to Thee and Praise is to Allah.

    4. Those belonging entirely to one master and bestowed with Allahs favours, enjoyingthe privilege of spending that their Allah [SWT] has given them both openly and also

secretly, commit to saying Praise is to Allah. 16:75; 39:29.

    5. History of the past many a nations bears witness to the fact that Allah [SWT] made

them suffer and also enjoy His gifts. The fate of wrongdoers is also very well known. Then is there any reason that we do not believe in the fact that all praise is for Allah

[SWT]? It is only ironic and astonishing that the humans have doubts within their

selves about Allah [SWT] after having known all that has been stated in this

summary. The object of afflicting humans with suffering and adversity in this life is

to make them learn humbleness so that their hearts soften to the teachings of their

Lord and they also learn to be affectionate to other humans. They would thus avoid

their losses in this world and the ultimate destruction in the life hereafter. Those who

do not pay attention to the encouragements of good behaviour and good conduct

given by Allahs messengers are provided in abundance in this world and then left by

Allah [SWT] to enjoy the good things of this world for some time. Such people are,

however, then taken to account for their misdoings suddenly. This explains theobject of leading life with all the restraints and restrictions imposed by Allah [SWT]

in this life that are in reality for our good. It also helps understanding the concept of

    life hereafter! 6:42-45

    SECTION TWO

THE CHERISHER AND SUSTAINER OF THE WORLDS

Considerations and meditation on the title of this sub topic make known and imply the

    following:-

    1. This universe in the backdrop of its vastness yet orderliness suggests having

a Cherisher and Sustainer who logically speaking must command praise

    from His entire creature.

    2. This universe has a number of dimensions both in time and in space and

The Cherisher and Sustainer of all these is ONE.

    3. I (and also each human and all other creatures) owe my survival andsustenance to that ONE who is the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds.

My ultimate reverence and respect cannot be but only for that ONE who is

    21

  • 8/14/2019 Explanation Of - Al-Fatihah

    22/36

the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds and it is only logical that so it

should be for every human being living in this world.

    4. Human conduct amongst them and with all other creatures in this universemust take a lead from that of the Sustainer and Cherisher of the Worlds, for

all including those that do not believe in Him, to whatever degree it can beaccomplished.

    5. Bowing to His Will, conveyed by Allahs messengers, without anyhesitation and accepting His total sovereignty in all matters especially those

connected with prayers, service of sacrifice and life and death.

Let us now have a detailed look at the Quranic verses communicated to us by Allah

Almighty through His Messenger Muhammad [PBUH] elaborating for some

more information. Here we once again begin with the second verse contained in the first

    Surah of the Holy Quran:-

    1

Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; 1:2Al-Fatihah

    - - - - -

    2-5

Recite to them the truth of the story of the two sons of Adam. Behold! they eachpresented a sacrifice (to Allah): it was accepted from one, but not from the other. Said thelatter: "Be sure I will slay thee." "Surely," said the former, "Allah doth accept of the sacrifice ofthose who are righteous. "If thou dost stretch thy hand against me, to slay me, it is not for meto stretch my hand against thee to slay thee: for I do fear Allah, the Cherisher of the Worlds."For me, I intend to let thee draw on thyself my sin as well as thine, for thou wilt be among theCompanions of the Fire, and that is the reward of those who do wrong." The (selfish) soul of

the other led him to the murder of his brother: he murdered him, and became (himself) one ofthe lost ones. 5:27-30

Then Praise be to Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord and Cherisher ofall the worlds! To Him be Glory throughout the heavens and the earth: and He is Exalted inPower, Full of Wisdom! 45:36-37

    Al-Jathiya

    Points for Contemplation

    1. Allah [SWT] is the Cherisher and Sustainer of the heavens, the earth, all the Worlds,

Exalted in Power and Full of Wisdom. All humans must, therefore, praise Allah

Almighty and fear Him when inclined to do anything wrong like killing other humans.

Allah [SWT] accepts sacrifices of the righteous and they do not give themselves up to

incorrect behaviour even when others are inclined to do wrong. Reward of those who

wrong others is hell fire and those who indulge in killing others become one of the lost

    ones. 1:2; 5:27-30; 37:182

    - - - - -11-15

As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part inthem in the least: their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all that theydid. He that doeth good shall have ten times as much to his credit: he that doeth evil shall only

Say: "Truly, my prayerand my service of sacrifice, my life and my death, are (all) for Allah, the Cherisher of theWorlds; "No partner hath He: this am I commanded, and I am the first of those who bow to His

    Will." 6:159-163Al-An am

    Points for Contemplation

    2. Believing in Allah Almighty and also accepting Him as the Cherisher of the Worlds

    suggest following:- 6:159-163;

    a. Bowing to His Will, conveyed by Allahs messengers, without anyhesitation and accepting His total sovereignty in all matters especially those

connected with prayers, service of sacrifice and life and death.

    b. Pursue obediently the religion of Abraham [PBUH] that can be summarisedin being true in faith and associating no partners with Allah [SWT].

    c. Not contributing in any way towards dividing the religion into sects.

Separating from those who adamantly do so and handing over their affairs at thedisposal of Allah Almighty for the final accountability.

    d. Accepting as part of belief that doing good deeds will be rewarded ten times(at the least) by Allah Almighty and the evil recompensed according to the evil done

and that no one will suffer any wrong on this account.

    a. Because He is the creator of the heavens, the earth (as resting place for

humans), the sky (as a canopy) and also the entire lot of other celestial bodies which

have immense benefits for all humans.

    b. As there could not be any one other than Allah [SWT] to create humans insuch a beautiful and proportionate shape and provide with such pure and good

sustenance to those who seek it.

    c. As He is having the full and the final control and authority in all mattersover all things in this universe.

    d. As day and night seek each other in rapid succession and this aspect is

having unlimited benefits for all creatures in this universe. Governance, therefore, is

by all logic due to Allah Almighty.

    e. Consequently no one has any moral or legal right to resort to doing mischiefon the earth and trespass beyond the bounds conveyed by Allah [SWT] through His

    SUMMARY

    1. Allah Almighty is the Cherisher and the Sustainer of the Worlds:-

    a. Because He is the creator of the earth (as resting place for humans), the sky

(as a canopy) and also the heavens with entire lot of other celestial bodies which

have immense benefits for all humans.

    b. As day and night seek each other in rapid succession and this aspect is

having unlimited benefits for all creatures in this universe.

    c. As there could not be any one other than Allah to create humans in such a

beautiful and proportionate shape and provide them with such pure and good

sustenance to those who seek it.

    d. As He is having the full and the final control and authority in all mattersover all things in this universe.

    e. Governance, therefore, is by all logic due to Allah Almighty. No one hastherefore any moral or legal right to resort to doing mischief on the earth and

trespass beyond the bounds conveyed by Allah through His messengers. So all

must call on their Creator praising Him with sincere devotion, fear and longing

and also with humility. They may do so openly and in private.

    10. Believing in Allah Almighty and accepting Him as the Cherisher of the Worlds

    suggests the following:-

    a. Bowing to His Will, conveyed by His messengers, without any hesitationand accepting His total sovereignty in all matters especially the ones connected

with prayers, service of sacrifice and life and death.b. Pursue obediently the religion of Abraham [PBUH] that can be summarisedin being true in faith and not joining any gods with Allah or associating any

    partners with Him.

    c. Not contributing in any way towards dividing the religion into sects. Onemust separate from those who adamantly indulge in so doing leaving their

affairs at the disposal of Allah Almighty for the final accountability.

    d. Accepting as part of belief that doing good deeds will be rewarded (at theleast) ten times by Allah Almighty and the evil recompensed according to the

evil done and that no one will suffer any wrong on this account.

    11. Messengers of Allah [SWT] come to the humans in this world with a mission full of

sincere advice for us and that too without asking for any reward from the humans is amanifestation of Allah [SWT] being the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all

between them. He is also Cherisher of the Worlds. Humans have to ponder over this

aspect and having done so will ultimately learn that this concept is there for their

betterment not only in this world but also in the life hereafter. Those who do not pay

attention to the warnings of good behaviour and excellent conduct conveyed by Allahs

messengers are provided in abundance in this life and then left to enjoy the same for

some time. Such people are ultimately taken to account for all that they have been doing.

    12. The decision between the unbelievers and those who feared their Lord will be in

perfect justice on the Day of Judgment when every one (including the angels) will be

singing with total conviction that all praise is to Allah [SWT] who is the Lord of the

Worlds. That day even the Evil One i.e. Satan accepts and also fears the Lord of theWorlds. The followers of Satan, therefore, need to ponder over it and rethink of their

All humans must fear Allah Almighty when inclined to doing anything wrong as for

example killing other humans. Allah [SWT] accepts sacrifices of the righteous and they

do not give themselves up to incorrect behaviour even when others are inclined to do

    wrong.

imagination. The mere fact that to date no one has been able to bring any Surah (or even

a verse) like it goes to prove beyond any doubt that it is the Word of Allah Almighty.

Those who surrender their will to that of their Allah and also believe that He is the

Cherisher of the Worlds, qualify to learn the Message from the Quran of remaining on

    the way that is straight.

    SUMMARY

    OF

PRAISE BE TO ALLAH THE CHERISHER AND SUSTAINER OF THE WORLDS

    34

  • 8/14/2019 Explanation Of - Al-Fatihah

    35/36

    1. All praise is for Allah [SWT] as He is the Cherisher and the Sustainer of the Worldsand to Him belong all that is in the heavens and on earth. There is no god but He

Who created heavens and the earth out of nothing and He adds to the Creation as He

pleases. He is the Maker of the darkness and the light. The one, who created the

humans from clay, decreed a stated tem for them and is to have another determinedterm in His presence for all of them. He is the one having knowledge of all that the

humans hide and reveal and what they earn through their deeds. He is the Allah

[SWT] on the heavens and on the earth, Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom, the Most

Merciful, the Oft-Forgiving, sends down rain and gives life, the Lord of Honour and

Power, to Him belongs Dominion and to Him belongs Praise and Glory. Allah is the

creator of angels as messengers who are having tremendous power to move about.

He revealed the Book allowing no crookedness in it that warns of terrible

punishment as well as gives Glad Tidings to all humans. He is the creator of the earth

(as resting place for humans), the sky (as a canopy) and also the heavens with entire

lot of other celestial bodies which have immense benefits for all humans. He is

having the full and the final control and authority in all matters over all things in this

universe. He makes day and night seek each other in rapid succession and this aspect

is having unlimited benefits for all creatures in this universe. He creates humans in

such a beautiful and proportionate shape and provides them with pure and good

sustenance. Governance, therefore, is by all logic due to Allah Almighty. No one

therefore has any moral or legal right to resort to doing mischief on the earth and

trespass beyond the bounds conveyed by Allah [SWT] through His messengers. So

all must call on their Creator praising Him with sincere devotion, fear and longing

and also with humility. They may do so openly and in private.

    2. It is the way of prophets of Allah to say Praise is to Allah on learning their prayershaving been granted, on being bestowed knowledge and on having been saved from

the people who do wrong. Prayers to Allah [SWT] must begin with His Praise. Those

rewarded with the living in the Gardens and also the angels surrounding the Thronealso recite Praise to Allah. Those who believe and work righteousness will be

Companions of the Gardens with rivers flowing underneath and will dwell therein

for ever. Peace will be their greeting over there. Allah will remove from their hearts

any sense of injury and sorrow. It is such people who will utter Glory to Thee and

Praise is to Allah. Those belonging entirely to one master and bestowed with

Allahs favours, enjoying the privilege of spending that their Allah has given them

both openly and secretly, also commit to saying Praise is to Allah. Those who

understand the greatness and glory of Allah say, Praise is to Allah.

    3. History of the past many a nations bears witness to the fact that Allah made themsuffer and also enjoy His gifts. The fate of wrongdoers is also very well known. Then

is there any reason that we do not believe in the fact that all praise is for Allah? It isonly ironic and astonishing that the humans have doubts within their selves about

Allah after having known all that has been stated in this summary. The object of

afflicting humans with suffering and adversity in this life is to make them learn

humbleness so that their hearts soften to the teachings of their Lord and they also

learn to be affectionate to other humans. They would thus avoid their losses in this

world and the ultimate destruction in the life hereafter. Those who do not pay

attention to the encouragements of good behaviour and good conduct given by

Allahs messengers are provided in abundance in this world and then left by Allah to

enjoy the good things of this world for some time. Such people are, however, then

taken to account for their misdoings suddenly. This explains the object of leading life

with all the restraints and restrictions imposed by Allah [SWT] in this life that are inreality for our good. It also helps understanding the concept of life hereafter!

  • 8/14/2019 Explanation Of - Al-Fatihah

    36/36

    14. Believing in Allah Almighty and accepting Him as the Cherisher of the Worlds

suggests bowing to His Will, conveyed by His messengers, without any hesitation and

accepting His total sovereignty in all matters. It also implies pursuing obediently the

religion of Abraham [PBUH] that can be summarised in being true in faith and not

joining any gods with Allah [SWT] or associating any partners with Him. It further

suggests not contributing in any way towards dividing the religion into sects. One must

separate from those who adamantly indulge in so doing leaving their affairs at the

disposal of Allah Almighty for the final accountability. Belief in Allah [SWT] provides

that doing good deeds will be rewarded (at the least) ten times by Allah Almighty and the

evil recompensed according to the evil done and that no one will suffer any wrong on this

    account.

    15. Messengers of Allah [SWT] coming to the humans in this world with a mission full

of sincere advice for us and that too without asking for any reward from the humans is a

manifestation of Allah being the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them.

He is also Cherisher of the Worlds. Humans have to ponder over this aspect and having

done so will ultimately learn that this concept is there for their betterment not only in this

world but also in the life hereafter. Those who do not pay attention to the warnings ofgood behaviour and excellent conduct conveyed by Allahs messengers are provided in

abundance in this life and then left to enjoy the same for some time. Such people are

ultimately taken to account for all that they have been doing.

    16. The decision between the unbelievers and those who feared their Lord will be in

perfect justice on the Day of Judgment when every one (including the angels) will be

singing with total conviction that all praise is to Allah [SWT] who is the Lord of the

Worlds. That day even the Evil One i.e. Satan accepts and also fears the Lord of the

Worlds. The followers of Satan, therefore, need to ponder over it and rethink of their

relations with Allah Almighty. All humans must fear Allah Almighty when inclined to

doing anything wrong as for example killing other humans. Allah [SWT] accepts

sacrifices of the righteous and they do not give themselves up to incorrect behaviour evenwhen others are inclined to do wrong.

    17. The Quran is a yet another proof of Allah [SWT] being the Cherisher and Sustainer

of the Worlds as it confirms the revelations that were sent to the humans centuries ago

and also contains nothing that can be doubted with any stretch of logical and reasonable

imagination. The mere fact that to date no one has been able to bring any Surah (or even

a verse) like it goes to prove beyond any doubt that it is the Word of Allah Almighty.

Those who surrender their will to that of their Allah [SWT] and also believe that He is

the Cherisher of the Worlds, qualify to learn the Message from the Quran of remaining

on the way that is straight.
