Concept:TheDigitalHumanitieshavebeenlargelydiscussedandarecurrentlyawell-establishedbranchofknowledgewithspecificdepartmentsandjournals.
Howdoesallthisimpactouron-goingresearchprojects?
This workshop aims at providing concrete answers to specific needs and challengesemerging from projects carried out bymaster and PhD candidates and post-doctoralresearchers.
Aclusterofqualifiedinternationalscholarsandprofessionalshasbeenputtogethertoimprove and transform our research, through theoretical analysis and technologicalresources.
Seminars, as well as training sessions, will be organized in a collaborative andinterdisciplinaryenvironmentto:
- (Re)center theDigitalHumanities inquestions raisedby students, researchers,scholarsandprofessionals.
- Facilitatethechoiceoftechniques;- Shapetheoutcomestroughdigitaltools.- Improveinformationsharing.

1. NetworkAnalysis-MartinGrandjean-September6Objects, people and ideas are increasingly intertwined in present societies and
observing thesenetworks isnowadaysapowerful tool for interpretationand fornew
knowledgeproduction inmultipledisciplines. Similarly, whenwe look at thepastwe

methodological approach. Knowing the methods for construction, analysis and
visualizationofsocialnetworks,implementingthemtospecificresearchquestions,will
betheaimofthisworkshop.
2. Spatialvisualisationofhistoricalandarchaeologicaldata-LeifIsaksen-September7Geography is an essential variable in historical and archaeological interpretation and
georeferenced data visualization can draw attention to patterns in the available
information,leadtothedevelopmentofnewquestions,orimprovethecommunication
of research results. Nowadays there are several techniques and tools used in spatial
datavisualizationanditsapplicationtoresearchintheHumanities.SocialScienceshave
spread to an everwider field of analysis, chronologically and thematically. With this
workshoptheaimistointroduceconcepts,methodsandtoolsforspatialvisualization
andexplorewithconcrete researchquestions thepotentialand the limitationsof this
typeofapproach.
3. Augmentinghistoricaldata-RichardZijdeman-September8Currenthistoricalresearchoftencombinesmultipledatasourcesinordertoanswera
research question. In order to do so, raw data sources are first cleaned, shaped in a
particularformatandthencombined.Invariousdisciplinesthisworktakesmoretime
thantheactualcompositionofthepaper.Still,oftentheworkflowperformedisseldom
shared and this work is often repeated making it inefficient. More importantly it
hampersthereproducibilityofresearchresults.ThissessionwillshowhowLinkedData

4. Readinganddataminingmaps-EvangelosLivieratos,ChrysoulaBoutouraandAngelikiTsorlini-September9Historical mapping is an important source of information for historical and / or
archaeological studies. Old maps can help to improve our knowledge of places and
peopleof thepast. Itsgeoreferencing,readingandsubsequentdataextractionmaybe

for awide range of research projects. With thisworkshopwewill explore advanced
digitalmethods forreadingandextractionofhistoricalmapsdata inorderto lookfor
thesemethodologiestomeetspecificresearchquestions.
