Welcome to the Netherlands! Have you just landed at the airport, or would you like to explore other parts of the Netherlands? Not only can we get you to and from Amsterdam, but also to more than 400 other locations in the country. Are you planning on travelling with us? This brochure will explain how easy it is to travel by train throughout the Netherlands.

Buying your ticketYou can view all of our products online and can often also purchase them online immediately. Go to ns.nl/producten to see all of the products NS offers. Of course you can also purchase a railway ticket from the NS ticket machines (with NS logo on top) at any station, and from the Tickets & Service Shop at many stations.

Types of ticketsYou can travel with the NS on a single- use smart card or on the OV-chipkaart (Dutch public transport chip card).

1. Single-use smart cardThe single-use smart card is a paper ticket with a chip on the inside. If you don’t think you will be using public transport that often, the single-use smart card is a good choice. You can buy these at the NS ticket machines and at the Tickets & Service Shops at most stations. You can also order an E-ticket online at ns.nl/producten. This ticket is personal and only valid in combination with a valid ID. You just have to print the ticket out. The single-use smart card is available as a single ticket, day return ticket or day ticket.

2. OV-chipkaartWill you be staying in the Netherlands for an extended period of time? If so, the OV-chipkaart might be a good idea for you. The OV-chipkaart is a smart card that you can use for every type of public transport in the Netherlands. This means you only need one card to travel by train, tram, bus and metro. There are two types of OV-chipkaart: the personal OV-chipkaart and the anonymous

OV-chipkaart. You can order the personal OV-chipkaart via ov-chipkaart.nl, or by filling in an application form at a Tickets & Service Shop at the station. A personal OV-chipkaart is free of charge when you have an NS Season Ticket. A personal OV-chipkaart without a Season Ticket or an anonymous OV-chipkaart costs a one-time fee of € 7.50. You can buy anonymous cards directly from an NS ticket machine or at other points of sale. See ov-chipkaart.nl/adresvinder for further information.

In order to use your OV-chipkaart for travel with the NS, you must have a mini-mum balance of € 20 on your card. Do you already have an NS Season Ticket? If so, the minimum balance is only € 10.00

Special tourist tickets We have several convenient and inexpensive tickets just for tourists wanting to discover Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands.

1. Ticket Schiphol Airport-AmsterdamYou can purchase a return ticket for Schiphol Airport-Amsterdam. This ticket

is valid for one trip from Schiphol Airport to any station in Amsterdam, and back to Schiphol Airport again. You can also purchase a single ticket for travel from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam.

2. Amsterdam Travel TicketThe easy-all-in-one Amsterdam Travel Ticket includes unlimited second class travel between Schiphol Amsterdam Airport and any station in Amsterdam on NS trains and the Amsterdam Airport Express (bus 197) and Niteliner (bus 97) operated by Connexxion. Combined with unlimited travel throughout Amsterdam on all trams, buses, night buses, metros and ferries operated by the Amsterdam transport company GVB, this is the perfect ticket for exploring Amsterdam.

4. Holland Travel TicketWould you like to discover the rest of the Netherlands? You can buy a day ticket that you can use to travel throughout the Netherlands by train, tram, bus and metro. This costs €59.00. If you travel after 9:00am during the week, you pay only €39.00. On the weekend you can travel for the whole day.

The NS ticket machinesYou can buy a single-use smart card or an anonymous OV-chipkaart at these machines. If you already have an anony-mous or personal OV-chipkaart, you can top up the balance on it at any NS ticket machine.

The NS ticket machine displays step-by-step instructions on how to do this. You can use your bank card or credit card (V PAY, Maestro, MasterCard and Visa) to pay at these machines. If you use Visa or MasterCard to pay, please take into account that you will be charged a fee of € 0.50.

Planning your tripTo look up travel information during your journey, go to the NS Travel Planner on ns.nl/en, or download the free Travel planner Xtra app for Apple or Android devices. You can purchase a mobile ticket here for a single journey or day return. You can also save your planned trip and receive alerts about your journey, such as reminders to check out. The Travel planner Xtra app also shows you how crowded the train is and provides information about stations, such as the available services and shops.

Trains from Schiphol Airport to AmsterdamTrains to Amsterdam depart from Schiphol Airport on a regular basis. These include:» A Sprinter or Intercity train to

Amsterdam Central every 15 minutes. » A Sprinter to Almere Oostvaarders

every 15 minutes. This train stops at the Duivendrecht, Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam RAI stations.

» An Intercity to Leeuwarden/Enschede every half hour. This train stops at the Duivendrecht and Amsterdam Zuid stations.

You can also take the Intercity Direct train. This train allows you to travel extra fast between Amsterdam Central Station, Schiphol Airport, Rotterdam Central Station and Breda. A surcharge applies for travel on the Schiphol-Rotterdam Central Station section. For further information, go to ns.nl/en/icdirect.

Always check in and outYou must always check in before board-ing the train. You can check in at one of the gates or poles with card readers. The doors on the gates prevent access to the station and can be opened using your single-use smart card, OV-chipkaart, e-ticket or mobile ticket. Even if the gate is already open, you must still check in.

You will find the poles and gates with card readers at the following locations: in the station hall (if the station has one), and otherwise on the platform or on the way to it. There are stations with station halls which also have poles on the platforms. These extra gates are located at extra entrances and exits to car parks or bicycle parking facilities.

You check in by holding your card up to the circle with the pink OV-chipkaart logo. If you have an e-ticket, you only have to check in or out at a gate. You hold the square barcode on your ticket up to the illuminated square in order to open the gate. You will hear a ‘beep’ sound that indicates you have checked in successfully.

way you checked in. You will hear two beeps when you check out. The poles can only read an OV-chipkaart, so do not try to check in with your e-ticket at these poles. Will you be transferring from travel on the NS to another trans-portation company, or to another form of public transport? If so, you must first check out with NS, and then in again for the bus, tram or metro operated by the other transportation company.

Other trains in the NetherlandsIn addition to the NS trains, you can also travel on international trains oper-ating within the Netherlands. You can use your single-use smart card, OV-chipkaart and e-ticket for travel on:» all NS International trains and also on

ICE International (supplement applies). Other conditions apply to Thalys and CityNightLine, such as advance reser-vations for Thalys. Check the terms and conditions on nsinternational.nl;

» all Arriva, Breng, Connexxion (Valleilijn) and Syntus trains;

» all Dutch sections of the Belgian and German railways (Heerlen–border, Enschede–border, Maastricht–border).

If you are planning to travel to or from another country on the train, go to nsinternational.nl.

Lost and foundIt can happen to anyone – you leave something behind or lose it on the train or at the station. Check with the Tickets & Service Shop or ask one of our staff

where you can report this. We store found objects at the station for up to five days. After this, we send them to the Central Lost Property Office (Centraal Bureau Gevonden Goed) where they are stored for three months. If you have lost something on the train or at the station, fill in the ‘Lost item return request’ form on ns.nl/en/lost-property.

If you have found something belonging to someone else, please turn it in to an NS employee. We will do our very best to return the object to its rightful owner.

FahrkartenartenBei NS reisen Sie entweder mit einer Einzelfahrkarte oder mit einer soge-nannten OV-chipkaart.

1. EinzelfahrkarteDie Einzelfahrkarte ist eine Fahrkarte aus Papier mit einem Chip auf der Innenseite. Wenn Sie wenig mit öffent-lichen Verkehrsmitteln reisen werden, ist eine Einzelfahrkarte eine gute Wahl. Diese Fahrkarten sind am NS-Fahrkarten automaten und an den meisten Bahnhöfen auch im Tickets & Service winkel erhältlich. Darüber hinaus können Sie online unter ns.nl/producten E-Tickets bestellen. Diese Fahrkarten sind nicht übertragbar und gelten nur in Kombination mit einem gültigen

Ausweis. Sie müssen das E-Ticket nur ausdrucken. Einzelfahrkarten sind für einmalige Fahrten in eine Richtung, für Hin- und Rückfahrten am selben Tag und als Tageskarte erhältlich.

Die persönliche OV-chipkaart kann auf ov-chipkaart.nl oder mit dem Antragsformular im Tickets & Servicewinkel am Bahnhof bestellt werden. In Kombination mit einem NS-Abonnement ist die persön liche OV-chipkaart gratis. Für eine persönliche OV-chipkaart ohne Abonnement oder eine anonyme OV-chipkaart zahlen Sie einmalig 7,50 €. Die anonyme OV-chipkaart können Sie direkt an einem NS-Fahrkarten automaten oder einer anderen Verkaufsstelle kaufen, siehe dazu ov-chipkaart.nl/adresvinder.Um mit NS mit Ihrer OV-chipkaart reisen zu können, benötigen Sie zumindest 20 € Guthaben auf Ihrer Karte. Haben Sie ein NS-Abonnement? Dann beträgt das Mindestguthaben nur 10 €.

Spezielle Touristen-fahrkarten Speziell für Touristen bieten wir einige praktische und günstige Fahrkarten an, um Amsterdam und den Rest der Niederlande zu erkunden.

1. Fahrkarte Flughafen Schiphol - Amsterdam

Sie können eine Rückfahrkarte für Ihre Fahrt vom Flughafen Schiphol nach Amsterdam und zurück kaufen. Diese Fahrkarte gilt für eine Fahrt vom Flughafen Schiphol zu jedem Bahnhof in Amsterdam und zurück zum Flughafen.

Sie können auch eine Einzelfahrkarte vom Flughafen Schiphol nach Amsterdam kaufen.

Amsterdam Travel TicketDas einfache All-in-One Amsterdam Travel Ticket berechtigt Sie zu unbegrenzten Fahrten in der zweiten Klasse zwischen dem Flughafen Schiphol und jedem Bahnhof in Amsterdam mit NS-Zügen sowie mit dem Amsterdam Airport Express (Bus 197) und dem Niteliner (Bus 97), die von Connexxion betrieben wer-den. Hier können Sie Handy-Tickets für eine einfache Fahrt oder eine Hin-und Rückfahrt am selben Tag lösen. Zudem können Sie Ihre geplante Fahrt speichern und Mitteilungen zu Ihrer Fahrt erhalten. Zum Beispiel werden Sie erinnert, ein- oder auszuchecken, falls Sie das ver-gessen haben. Die Reisplanner Xtra App zeigt auch an, wie voll es im Zug ist. Zudem bietet sie Informationen über die Bahnhöfe, z. B. welche Dienstleistungen und Läden es dort gibt.

Immer ein- und auscheckenBevor Sie in den Zug einsteigen, müssen Sie immer einchecken. Das Einchecken erfolgt an einer Stele oder Türschleuse. Die Türschleusen versperren den Zugang zum Bahnhof mit Türen. Sie lassen sich mit Ihrer Einzelfahrkarte, Ihrer OV-chipkaart, Ihrem E-Ticket oder Ihrem Handy-Ticket öffnen. Auch wenn die Türschleuse bereits geöffnet ist, müssen Sie einchecken.Sie finden die Stelen und Türschleusen an den folgenden Stellen: in der Bahnhofshalle, sofern eine vorhanden ist, oder auf dem Bahnsteig (bzw. am Aufgang zum Bahnsteig). Es gibt Bahnhöfe mit einer Bahnhofshalle, an denen auch Stelen auf den Bahnsteigen stehen. Diese zusätzlichen Türschleusen befinden sich dann an den zusätzlichen Ein- und Ausgängen zu einem Parkplatz oder Fahrradabstellplatz.

Türschleusen ein- und auschecken. Sie halten den viereckigen Strichcode vor das beleuchtete Feld, um die Türschleuse zu öffnen. Danach hören Sie einen Piepton: Sie sind eingecheckt! Bei Beendigung Ihrer Reise mit NS müs-sen Sie auch immer wieder auschecken, und zwar genauso, wie Sie auch einge-checkt haben. Sie hören dann zwei Pieptöne. Stelen können nur die OV-chipkaart lesen, sie können Sie mit einem E-Ticket also ignorieren. Steigen Sie von einem NS-Zug auf einen Zug eines anderen Transportunternehmens oder auf ein anderes öffentliches Verkehrsmittel um? Checken Sie erst bei NS aus und anschließend beim anderen Transportunternehmen (Zug, Bus, Straßenbahn oder U-Bahn) wieder ein.

Andere Züge in den NiederlandenAußer den Zügen von NS können Sie innerhalb der Niederlande auch interna-tionale Züge nutzen. Mit Ihrer Einzelfahrkarte, Ihrer OV-chipkaart und Ihrem E-Ticket reisen Sie:» mit allen Zügen von NS International

und mit Zuschlag auch im ICE International. Für den Thalys und CityNightLine gelten andere Bedingungen, bei Thalys muss man beispielsweise im Voraus reservieren. Die Bedingungen finden Sie auf nsin-ternationaal.nl.

Verlorene GegenständeEs kann vorkommen, dass Sie im Zug oder am Bahnhof etwas vergessen oder verloren haben. Erkundigen Sie sich im Tickets & Servicewinkel danach oder fragen Sie einen unserer Mitarbeiter, an wen Sie sich wenden können. Gefundene Gegenstände bewahren wir bis zu 5 Tage am Bahnhof auf. Danach senden wir sie an das Fundbüro (Centraal Bureau Gevonden Goed), wo alles 3 Monate aufbewahrt wird. Um Ihren Gegenstand wiederzufinden, fül-len Sie das Formular „Lost item return request“ unter ns.nl/en/lostproperty aus.Wenn Sie selbst etwas von jemand anderem gefunden haben, bitten wir Sie, den gefundenen Gegenstand bei einem NS-Mitarbeiter abzugeben. Vous pouvez acheter ce billet aux distributeurs automatiques NS ainsi qu’aux points de vente Tickets & Servicewinkel dans la plupart des gares. Vous pouvez aussi commander un billet électronique en ligne sur ns.nl/ producten. Ce billet est personnel et valable uniquement avec une pièce

Renseignez-vous auprès du point de vente Tickets & Servicewinkel ou demandez à l’un de nos employés à qui vous adresser. Nous conservons les objets trouvés pendant 5 jours à la gare. Ensuite, nous les envoyons au bureau central des objets trouvés (Centraal Bureau Gevonden Goed) où ils sont conservés pendant 3 mois. Existen estaciones con vestíbulo en las que tam-bién encontrará postes en los andenes.
