Central Michigan University Family Medicine Residency Program

Accredited in 1969, the Central Michigan University Family Medicine Residency Program is among the oldest in the nation and the first program to be accredited in Michigan. Since its inception, over 250 graduates have successfully completed training in the program, which emphasizes quality care, communication skills and the doctor-patient relationship.

Residents are exposed to a broad spectrum of clinical issues encountered in the Family Medicine Center and in two of Saginaw’s major hospitals, and they have an opportunity to perform a variety of procedures in the Department’s Procedures Center that routinely completes up to 600 office procedures each year. Department-directed clinics in ambulatory geriatrics, office procedures and chronic disease state management provide a unique training environment for residents. Offering the chance for one-on-one teaching from an array of specialists, the program boasts nationally-acclaimed faculty recognized as leaders in Family Medicine education who build strong, supportive relationships with the residents.

Doctors’ Hospital of Michigan Family Medicine ResidencyWith its 32-year heritage, the Doctors’ Hospital of Michigan (DHM) Family Medicine Residency Program offers residents exposure to hospital-, office- and community-based medicine. A major affiliate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine, the comprehensive and unopposed program is housed in a Pontiac community-based hospital where residents do not compete for learning opportunities in any rotation throughout the hospital.

Key components of the program include daily education, local and national professional development, as well as continuity of care. The primary goal of the program is to educate its graduates to be competent, caring, dedicated and effective Family Physicians. DHM puts the “family” in Family Medicine… just ask the faculty, staff, residents and patients.
