Level: A1 The following students sheet is to be used with the museum map (copies also available in the shop.) This sheet could be used during or before a visit to the museum. Please feel free to photocopy for your group. The map attached is only an indication – please either enlarge or pick up copies at the entrance. Elicit the directions and practice before students see the sheet. Answers: a. I am at the shop (no. 1). I turn left and go up the hill. What can I see to the left of me? The Downland Gridshell (no.48) b. I am at Hambrook barn (no. 2). I go down the hill, past the ‘Toll Cottage’ (no. 3), and walk straight on towards the lake. What can I see to the right of me? Refreshments/café (also in medieval house from Sole Street no.47) c. I am in the Victorian school (no. 6) and turn right out of the door. I go straight on, past the sheepfold and ‘Popular Cottage’ (no. 7). I turn right. What can I see to the left of me? Stables (no number) d. I walk from the market place and go straight on past ‘Poplar Cottage’ (no. 7) and straight on past four small buildings on my right. Then I turn right. Where am I? Winkhurst Tudor kitchen (no. 14) Depending on the age and level of your group you may include the vocab activity, include other terms, or leave it out. Answers: mill, stables, charcoal camp, refreshments, smithy. Continuation project idea: During your visit to the museum, take photos and use the phrases to describe a walk around the site.
