• The first magazines were published as early as 1663 in Germany.

• The first general interest magazine was published in the 1700s in England, it was called ‘The Gentleman’s magazine’

Different types of magazinesThere are three types of magazines:• Consumer • Trade• Professional and in-house.

Consumer MagazinesConsumer magazines are magazines aimed

at the public. These magazines are distributed free of charge or sold according

to the marketing goals of the publisher.

Trade MagazinesTrade magazines also known as trade

journals are magazines intended for people part of a trade or industry. Its purpose is to keep members of a trade updated of new

developments.

In house MagazinesIn house magazines are made by

a specific organization for its employees and deals with

subjects related to the organization.
