Planning FORWARDS
• Complete your High School Planner with the NHS courses that best meet your
graduation requirements, interests, and abilities.
• Use the ‘Pathway Eligibility’ tool to explore the post-secondary opportunities
available to you should you stick with that high school plan.
• Create more than one plan to see how your opportunities might change.
Unsure what you would like to do after high school?
Interested in exploring a variety of options?
From your Dashboard,
click “Portfolios”.
On the next page, click
on “Add Portfolio”.
Type in a title:
e.g. “Exploring
Post-Secondary
Opportunities – IPP
Session 2”, then click
“Add Portfolio”.
In the navigation menu,
click “High School”
then “View Plans”.
If you already have a
high school plan, click
“Add New Plan”
OR click on the three
dots next to an existing
plan then select
“Copy Plan” to adapt it.
Be sure to name it as
“My “Forwards” Plan”.
Create a full high school
plan that meets all
graduation requirements
based on your interests
and academic
preparation.
Click on the course
boxes to explore the
course options that will
meet your graduation
requirements.
Use “Search” to find
courses that you know
or click on the
different disciplines to
find courses related to
your interests.
HINT: Not sure what to add?
Check out the
KNOWLEDGE SURVEY
(go to ‘Who Am I’ in the navigation menu)
to learn more about which courses are a
good match for you!
If you add a course and
it appears red in your
plan, then there is an
issue with the selection.
Place your cursor over
the red circle to clarify
the issue (e.g. a
prerequisite course
might be missing), then
correct it accordingly.
Click on “View
Progress” on your
“Graduation Indicator” to
make sure your plan
meets all graduation
requirements. If any
check marks are grey,
update your high school
plan to include these
courses.
Now look at your
“Pathway Eligibility”.
Click on the number
beside the different
pathways to see a list of
post-secondary
programs that you are
eligible for based on the
courses in your plan.
Review the programs in
the list and find two that
interest you. Click the
heart on those program
boxes to add them to
your list of “Favourites”.
Use the filters and
keyword search at the
top of the page to
narrow down the list of
program options.
Click on the three dots
in the top-right corner of
each program and
select “Compare”. At
the top of the screen,
click the “Compare”
button to see a side-by-
side comparison of both
programs.
Review the program
details (program length,
tuition, education
required, and so on).
Click on the pin button
for each program to add
them to your portfolio.
While reviewing and
comparing programs, be
sure to scroll down each
page to explore the
different occupations
you could transition to
as a graduate from this
program. Click “View
More” to see even more
related occupations.
Click on the occupations
to learn more about
them, and click on the
hearts to add them to
your favourites.
Be sure to add at least
two occupations to your
portfolio.
Using the navigation
menu, expand the
“Home” options then
click “Portfolios”).
Open the portfolio you
created earlier:
“Exploring Post-
Secondary
Opportunities – IPP
Session 2”. You should
see the all of the
programs and
occupations you have
added to this portfolio.
Click “Add Box”, then
select “Add from
myBlueprint”. Add your
High School Plan to
your portfolio.
Click on “Add Box” and
select “Add Journal”.
Respond to the
following questions:
1. “How did planning
FORWARDS help you
find an occupation that
caught your interest?”
2. “What are the pros
and cons to this plan?”

• Identify occupations of interest and their required education
• Browse, review, and compare potential post-secondary programs
• Identify specific programs of interest and their admission requirements
• Review and update your High School Plan to include any missing
requirements
Planning BACKWARDS
Does a particular occupation interest you? Perhaps more than one?
Want to be sure you are selecting the ‘right’ high school courses to be
eligible for specific post-secondary opportunities?
In the navigation menu,
click on “Work” and then
select “Occupations”.
Use the search bar to
find the occupation(s)
that you want to
explore.
Click on the occupation
and read through the
information provided.
Click the heart on the
occupation boxes to add
them to your list of
“Favourites”. Be sure to
also add them to your
new portfolio.
HINT: Not sure what to pick?
Try choosing from the list of
Occupation Matches unlocked by
the LEARNING STYLES,
PERSONALITY, & INTERESTS
SURVEYS that you completed in
our IPP Session 1.
(Go to ‘Who Am I’ in the
navigation menu)
Click on “Requirements”
and read through the
information provided.
Scroll down to “Potential
Programs” and click
“View More”.
Review the programs in
the list and find two that
sound interesting. Click
the heart on those
program boxes to add
them to your list of
“Favourites”.
If there are too many
options, scroll to the top
and use the filters and
keyword search to
narrow down the list of
program options (for
example, the province
that you want to study
in, subjects that you
like, and so on).
Click on the three dots
in the top-right corner of
each program and
select “Compare”.
At the top of the screen,
click the “Compare”
button to see a side-by-
side comparison of both
programs.
Review the program
details (program length,
tuition, education
required, and so on).
Click on the pin button
for each program to add
them to your portfolio.
Click on one of your
“Favourite Program”
boxes. Scroll down the
page and then click
“View More”.
When the next page
opens, click on
“Requirements”. Make
note of any course
requirements not
currently met by your
existing high school
plan (the are grey and
don’t have a green
checkmark).
From the navigation
menu, select “High
School” and then click
“View Plans”.
If you already have a
high school plan, click
“Add New Plan” (or click
on the three dots next to
an existing plan then
select “Copy Plan” to
adapt it).
Start adding the missing
required courses to your
plan. Add the grade 12
courses first, followed
by the prerequisite
grade 11 courses.
Any courses that are
missing prerequisites
will be flagged in red.
Continue adding
courses working
backwards to your
current grade.
Click on “View
Progress” on your
“Graduation Indicator” to
make sure your plan
meets all graduation
requirements.
If any check marks are

school plan to include
these courses.
Return to “My Education
and Career/Life Plan” in
your “Portfolios”.
Click on “Add Box” and
select “Add Journal”.

and cons to this plan?”

Try customizing your
portfolio with an avatar
and banner. You
might also opt to move
