Quality control and Pre-shipment InspectionExported goods, make a counrty’s image, in terms of quality and perfection. The government of India has introduced scheme of compulsory quality control and pre-shipment inspection under the export act1963, to supply goods strictly as per international standards.

The Export Inspection Council (EIC) has been set up by the government to help in efficiency and certification system. It has the following powers:•Notifying items which should be subject to quality control and pre-shipment inspection before export.•Establishing standards of quality for notified items.•State the type of quality control and inspection to be used for such items.

Procedure for filining Marine Insurance Policy

1. To inform about the loss to the marine insurance company.2. The insurance company appoints surveyor to find out the amount of loss

and cause of loss.3. Surveyor conducts investigation and confirms the cause of loss.4. The insured has to submit the following documents along with claim

form:I. Original insurance policy.II. Original invoiceIII. Packing listIV. Bill of ladingV. Survey report

Indian Customs EDI System (ICES)

In order to encourage computerised processing of export documents, the DELHI customs house, in 1994-95, launched Electronic Data Interchange System (EDI). It connects all the agencies involved in international trade with the customs house electronically.

EDI system is:-1. Computerization of custom related procedures.2. Bringing together an environment of participation and

cooperation of all the agencies.3. Playing an important role in the movement of goods, contains

and passengers.4. Making easy customs laws and procedures.5. To attend the needs of export import trade.

Documents needed for export under EDI system

The documents needed are:

•Letter of credit along with export order or export contract.•Commercial invoice•Packing list•Letter of AC customs permitting factory stuffing of goods if applicable•Shipping bill or electronic shipping bill:

All exporter have to open an account with Punjab National Bank, located at new customs house for receiving their drawback account. The account is needed as customs will not issues any cheques, for drawback account on any other bank
