Please note the following: Renting/leasing your single family home for less than six continuous months violates the zoning ordinance which only allows for short term rentals in areas designated as commercial with appropriate use approval. Renting/leasing your home for less than six continuous months requires the collection and remittance of the State, County, and City lodging taxes, per section 40-26-1 of the Code of Alabama, 1976 and Section 12-176 of the Auburn, Alabama–Code of Ordinances. Renting/leasing your primary home may negatively affect the homestead exemption status with Lee County. Multifamily dwellings such as condos and apartment complexes may be rented on a short-term basis with proper approval from Auburn City Council and should collect and remit lodging taxes to the State and City when rentals are less than six continuous months.
