Expressions which use the verb avoir

Avoir in the present tense

j’ai (I have)

tu astu as (you have) SG.

il a (he has)

elle a (she has)

nous avons (we have)vous avez (you

The usual meaning of this verb is “to have”, but in the expressions we are looking at today, it has the meaning “to be” as in

J’ai 15 ans = I AM fifteen years old

j’ai froid

j’ai honte de
