At a recent meeting of the Medical, Scientific and Welfare

Committee, the issue of ‘biting’ and the provision in Rule for

dealing with same was referred to Coiste Bainistí.

Coiste Bainistí requested advice from the Rules Advisory

Committee.

The Rules Advisory Committee was reluctant to specify ‘biting’ in

Rule as a specific Infraction. The Committee recommended to

Coiste Bainistí that Ard Chomhairle be requested to issue a

Directive dealing with issue.

Ard Chomhairle, at its meeting on 17 Lúnasa 2013, issued the

following Directive in accordance with Rule 3.44 (b) T.O. 2013

and on the basis of the advice of the Rules Advisory Committee:

That ‘biting’ shall constitute a Category III Infraction. Where a

Referee’s Report discloses an alleged ‘biting’ incident, or a

Competitions Control Committee decides that Disciplinary

Action is appropriate in relation to an alleged ‘biting’ incident, the

Competitions Control Committee shall propose a penalty, no

less than the minimum, applicable to 7.2 (b) Category III (vii)

Inflicting injury recklessly by means other than those stated

above.

“WHAT GETS MEASURED GETS DONE”

Ulster Bank GAA

Force – an initiative

which supports local

GAA clubs by offering

them the chance to

win support packages

to refurbish and

upgrade their facilities – has returned, for

the third year running.

Once again, one lucky GAA club will

receive the top prize of a support package

worth £22,000 or €25,000 and four

runners-up (one from each province) will

receive a support package worth £4,400 or

€5,000 each. The winning clubs will then

carry out improvements to their GAA

facilities during the planned 2013 Ulster

Bank GAA Force Winning Weekends.

Over 500 clubs, from across the island of

Ireland entered the programme last year,

which saw St. Ergnat’s GAC Moneyglass in

Antrim receive a provincial support

package worth £4,400 while Erin’s Own

GAA Club in Waterford won the overall

support package worth €25,000. Three

other provincial clubs were also awarded a

support packages worth €5,000 (Clooney

Quin GAA Club in Clare, Two Mile House

GAA Club in Kildare, Eire Óg GAA Club in

Roscommon ).

Ulster Bank, Official Sponsor of the GAA

Football All-Ireland Senior Championship,

is now calling on clubs to register for this

year’s competition on

www.ulsterbank.com/gaa.

Speaking about the initiative, Seán Óg

ÓhAilpin, Ulster Bank, said: “Ulster Bank

GAA Force received a record number of

entries in 2012 and we are hoping to break

that record again, this year. Supporting

grassroots GAA, clubs and communities is

extremely important to Ulster Bank and

we are overwhelmed with the success of

the initiative, since its inception. Ulster

Bank GAA Force is about highlighting the

important role that GAA clubs play within

their communities. The initiative is also

about getting the community together to

get behind their local club and show their

support for their clubs sides.” Paul Dermody from the GAA welcoming

the return of Ulster Bank GAAForce said:

“I wish football sponsors Ulster Bank every

success with their own promotional

activity around our games and already note

the popularity of their GAA Force

campaign, which, in seasons past, has

helped clubs across the country. “

Registration for Ulster Bank GAA Force is

now open and clubs can register until on

6th September 2013 www.ulsterbank.com/

gaa. The first 100 clubs to register for the

initiative will also receive a support

package worth £100 or €100.

Page 6 EXTRA TIME DOWN GAA NEWSLETTER

As September 1st draws near, we have

reached the end of another fantastic and

action packed Summer of GAA Kellogg's

Cul Camps in Down.

Following 8 weeks of camps at 43 clubs

involving hundreds of coaches and

thousands of children, the summer has

been a wonderful period and a huge

success!!

Down GAA would like to take the

opportunity the thank all those who have

contributed to the success of the camps in

any way.

Our Clubs: We must start by thanking the clubs, who

welcome the camps on a now annual basis.

The camps are very much the focal part of

the summer for many of our clubs. The

club co-ordinators do a huge amount of

work in advance of the camps taking place,

promoting the camps locally and most

importantly, enrolling the children who

wish to attend.

On a daily basis club volunteers give up

their time to be onsite to assist with any

duties that need done. Their presence

alone provides a familiar and reassuring

face for the children attending.

Our Coaches: The success of the camps relies heavily on

the quality of people delivering. In Co.

Down we are fortunate to have a

wonderful team of both full time staff and

volunteer coaches who work on a daily

basis in the Nursery and Cul Camps.

The coaches we use are some of the most

qualified, dedicated and motivated young

(and not so young) people within this

County. They are a credit to their families,

their clubs and to Down GAA as a whole.

Thank You.

Our Parents: Without the parents who travel twice

daily to the camps to drop off and collect

their children, the camps would not take

place. The parents are the people

who choose the Kellogg's GAA Cul

Camps for their children. We strive

to make the camps as enjoyable,

beneficial and educational as possible

for your children. We believe that

our camps represent great value for

money, and the numbers of parents

who send their children to our Cul

Camps is testament to this.

Our games are the best in the

world, and our association has much

more to offer than a 1 week camp.

We would encourage our parents to

bring their children to their local

club. The benefits are endless.

Our Children: On the behalf of the coaches, the

clubs and the Down GAA family I

would like to thank each and every

one of the 3269 children who

attended this years camps. As ever

you have made the summer as

enjoyable for us, as hopefully the we

have for you.

You are the future of our association

in Co. Down. Get to your club

training and develop your skills on a

daily basis at home and in school.

We look forward to seeing you all

again in 12 months, a year older and

in SOME cases hopefully a year

wiser!!

* There is some surplus stock of Cul

Camp kits and Bags available for

purchase. They make ideal training

kits or schools bags!!!

either or both of the above please

Queen’s University have invested in excess

of £20m in recent years to transform

Upper Malone facilities into a world class

centre of excellence in the provision of

high quality, community-focused training

and competition facilities that benefits

students and the wider community and

helps cement Queen’s University as one of

Ireland’s premier sporting universities.

This investment allows more people

access to world-class, high performance

facilities gives the community a greater

degree of participation in sport and

provides Queen’s students with the tools

and the platform to become some of

Ireland’s top sports men and women, for

generations to come.

The most recent addition to our portfolio

is a fully floodlit grass pitch for dedicated

GAA use all year round and this project is

approaching completion, in time for the

hosting of the GAA14 Festival at the

University this Academic year. The pitch

also incorporates a substantial training

area, which is independently floodlit. Both

facilities are serviced by an adjacent

changing area which also caters for our

other two external grass pitches.

The pitch will be prioritized for student

GAA but substantial time every week

will be available for external and partner

bookings.

We are officially opening the new pitch

on Friday 6th September with a high

profile football & hurling double header.

We would like to invite you, as a valued

partner of the GAA family at Queen’s, to

a hospitality event at Upper Malone to

showcase & open the Academy pitch

(Old Sigerson pitch).

We hope that this evening will give you

an opportunity to sample the fantastic

new facilities and to enjoy some high

quality games.
