Exxon Mobil Corporation, Company Overview
2 ExxonMobil, Company Overview ExxonMobil is an integrated oil and gas company involved in the exploration, production, refining and transportation of crude oil and natural gas and the manufacture of petroleum products. It operates under a number of brand names, including ExxonMobil, Exxon, Esso and Mobil.
ExxonMobil’s business activities are divided into three segments: upstream, downstream, and chemicals. The upstream segment is engaged in the exploration, development, production, and marketing of crude oil, Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) and natural gas. ExxonMobil has Exploration and Production (E&P) acreage in xx countries and production operations in xx countries. Its downstream segment refines and markets a wide range of petroleum products, including crude oil, natural gas, fuels and lubricants, in more than xx countries. ExxonMobil is present in xx countries and holds interest in xx refineries. Its chemical business manufactures and markets commodity petrochemicals, including olefins, aromatics, and polyethylene and polypropylene plastics, in xx countries. ExxonMobil also holds interests in electric power generation facilities.
In 2014, ExxonMobil focused its drilling activities on proven and emerging oil and natural gas basins. Its exploration activities were conducted over an area of xxx million net acres, in xx countries. It drilled xxx wells, of which xxx were development wells, and xx were exploration wells. Of its development wells, xxxx were productive, and xx were dry. Of its exploratory wells, xx were productive. ExxonMobil had xxx billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in proved reserves, of which xxx billion boe (xxx%) were developed, and xx billion boe (xx%) were undeveloped. It’s proved reserves increased by xx billion boe, meaning that ExxonMobil replaced more than xx% of its production for the 21st consecutive year.
ExxonMobil produced xx million barrels of oil equivalent (mmboed) in 2014, of which xxx% was liquids, and xxx% was natural gas. Most of its production came from the US and Asia, where it produced xxx million barrels of oil equivalent per day (mmboed) and xx mmboed, respectively. ExxonMobil’s production is expected to increase by xx% in 2015 and by xx% in 2016 and 2017.
ExxonMobil’s capital expenditure (capex) in 2014 was US$xxx billion, xx% less than its capex in 2013, which was US$xxx billion. This decrease was due to ExxonMobil’s reducing its upstream spending and not making any acquisitions in 2014. ExxonMobil’s planned capex for 2015 is US$xx billion, xxx% less than its 2014 capex. This reduction is due to the recent fall in crude oil prices. ExxonMobil expects its annual capex to be US$xx billion in 2016 and 2017.
The following figure provides an overview of ExxonMobil’s operations in 2014.
