Kia ora koutou. Nga mihi nui ki te whanau o te kura Puketapu.

Hello to parents and caregivers.

Plenty of rain yesterday but I’m sure the rest of the week will be great. Spring is next week.

Our Let’s Go Team has a project to get everyone active on the way to school: Data is to be collected daily by each class on walking, biking or scooting to school - including Park ‘n’ Walk. All data is being recorded and there is a competition between the junior and senior classes and there is an interschool competition too.

Great work our Parent Support Group for getting the Junior playground under way. Thank you all the workers and those that keep things moving. If you haven’t seen the new play area yet, do take a look. More will be added, but it’s looking great already.

On Monday we travelled to Inglewood for the Year 7&8 Interschool exchange. We had wins in rugby and the netball B. It’s a pleasure to the take the teams to another school… true Puketapu style and it is great to see the camaraderie and friendship develop through these exchanges.

Thanks to the many parents who have helped out this week with transport into town for art festival activities. I even had the pleasure of carting some 5 year olds yesterday.

We are competing in the Tatarakihi Festival on Friday. Kia kaha te roopu kapa haka o Puketapu! Bus leaves 8:00am Powhiri 9.00am performance 9:50am.

Remember; right place right time with the right stuff right. We do expect and ask for that little extra from our senior students from now on. Do that bit extra - but make sure you tell whanau what you are doing and who you are with.. Mahi, mahi, mahi!

During the end of Term 4 we have camps for Year 5&6 and 7&8 students. It costs. A certain amount of fundraising happens but individual contributions are necessary. All outstanding school fees must be paid before camp. All can be paid in instalments if that helps.

Don’t forget that daily question… “What did you learn today?” It is still maths month so keep the focus… maths is everywhere.

Have a good week.

Rowena’s Message for the Future Leaders of the World... On Friday we had a fantastic visitor to Assembly: Rowena Szeszeran-McEvoy, businesswoman, author, editor, marathon runner, fitness guru and one of the wealthiest (and happiest!) people in Australia. She had some very clear messages about health and fitness, with 5 simple tips for being healthy:

Be Happy

Drink more water

Eat more fruit and vegetables

Get puffed 4 times a day

Be strong!

Do you remember the actions and songs that went with each one?

The Let’s Go Fresh Air Challenge

Next week the whole school will be participating in the 2015 Let’s Go Fresh Air Challenge. This begins on Tuesday 1st and runs for the whole month of September. The challenge is to have children walk, bike, park ‘n’ walk, scooter or skate to school.

We really want to see the number of cars outside the school gate reduced. Classes will log trips daily and the Lets Go team will keep weekly totals with prizes being awarded to the top junior and top senior classes at the end of the month. So ‘Let’s Go Team!’
