Preparation • Prepare all of the resources ready.
Main Activity • Show children how to make a simple mini pirate ship. • Place two elastic bands around three corks, thread a cocktail stick through a Jolly Roger flag & poke into the middle cork.
• Help the children with their construction where necessary. • Encourage children to improve their designs as they work. • Sail their pirate ships on a safe and shallow stream, puddle or bucket of water.
Differentiation: HA- Can they suggest ways of improving their ship design? LA- Help with following instructions. Extension: Can the children experiment with natural materials around them to build a mini pirate ship in another way? Which one do they prefer and why?
