If you live in a location that you truly enjoy, there is usually a reason. It could be the people, the schools, the landscape or as they say in our business, location, location, location. Whatever your reason, you should use that as motivation to give back to your community. Essentially, take what you enjoy and make that part a little better for everyone else.

For example, you like to hike and are heading up Daisy Mountain. Along the way, you come across some trash that someone else has left behind. 0DNHDSRLQWWRSLFNLWXSDQGEULQJLWGRZQZLWK\RX7KDWZLOOPDNH\RXUV

and your neighbors next hike that much more enjoyable! Why not reach out to those same schools to see if they can use the help of a volunteer. I’m sure schools can always use an extra hand.

Life is great here, enjoy it, but be sure to do what you can to make it better for everyone.

Saving Energy Saves You Cash!

Well, summer is right around the corner and you know what that means, it’s time to kick on the AC and break out the checkbook! As we all know, the summers are hot and the bills are high, but they probably don’t need to be as high as they are if you take a few simple steps to minimize your energy use.

We consulted with the crew at Main Street Mechanical, to give us some insight on ways to keep our energy costs down, while still living comfortably in our homes. We addressed a few of the common questions that have been debated over the \HDUVLQKRSHVRI¿QGLQJWKHFRUUHFWDQVZHU)RUH[DPSOHLVLWEHVWWROHDYH\RXUhome at one temperature throughout the day or raise and lower it, according to your lifestyle? Drum roll please…Program your thermostat to coincide with your life. If you like your house to be at 75 while you’re home, that’s great, but if you are JRQHGXULQJWKHGD\EHVXUHWRPRYHWKHWHPSXSWRWKHGHJUHHUDQJHZKLOHyou’re gone.

How about the long term shut down? One key thing to remember is to have the fans rotating in the proper direction, counter-clockwise in the summer and clockwise in the winter.

Next up, keep those blinds closed! On the side of the house that is being directly hit by the sun, you can do wonders to bring down the inside temp by keeping that sun out. We love our views of the desert, but wait until the sun passes by a particular window before you open the blinds to take in that view. If you’re headed out for a vacation or even plan to be away all day, close all the shades in the house and keep the heat out.

When I lived in the Midwest, by early March I would look out at the ice and snow and ask myself all kinds of questions. How am I going to decorate the deck this VXPPHU" :KDW ÀRZHUV GR ,

want to plant? Do I need new rug? Living in WKHYDOOH\ LVDZKROHGL̆HUHQWVWRU\ :HKDYHWKHOX[XU\WRXVHRXUSDWLRVDQGFRXUW\DUGVdays a year and making your outdoor living area an extension of your indoor space can greatly enhance that experience.

7KLVFDQEHDFFRPSOLVKHGVHYHUDOGL̆HUHQWZD\Vsuch as using similar elements outside that you have inside. For example, if you have stone DURXQG\RXU¿UHSODFHFRQVLGHUDGGLQJWKHVDPHstone on the walls and pillar of your covered patio. 7KDWZD\ZKHQ\RXZDONRXWVLGH LW ORRNVDQGfeels like a continuation of the interior.

Another approach to make that seamless transition is to choose patio furniture cushions that compliment the color scheme that is in the room closest to the outdoor space and then anchor that seating area with a nice area rug. ,W¶V DPD]LQJ WKH GL̆HUHQFH LW FDQPDNH:LWKFRXQWOHVVVW\OHVDQGFRORUVWRFKRRVHIURP¿QGone that inspires you and use it as the start of a great outdoor living room.

We are blessed with great weather year round. When it comes to decorating outside the possibilities are endless!
