A Message from our President

It seems as summer ends, we see our neighbors much less. No unplanned park and pool play dates, not as many people out mowing the lawns. Let's try to keep those neighborhood relationships alive during the winter. Invite a neighbor

over, post a time to play at the park on the Facebook page - let's debunk the Seattle Chill theory! If you'd like to hear about a neighbor in Hampton Woods who is reaching out to neighbors, check out this blog -

http://eatplaythaw.com/.

If you are inspired to start a club or group within the neighborhood, know that it is welcome and

encouraged.

Newsletter With the turning of the seasons comes beauty of the changing leaves,

this issue of the HH Newsletter, you will find information for your

any items that you would like included in the next issue of the HH

Maintenance Tips for Fall

With autumn upon us it is important to do some home

and garden preparation for the colder months. Check

out http://naturaldesignlandscape.com/tips.aspx for

gardening tips. The following is a checklist adapted

from Better Homes and Garden:

Have your gutters and downspouts inspected

and cleaned

Examine and seal any cracks or gaps in your

windows and/or doors

Have your roof inspected for damaged or curled

shingles, corroded flashing, or leaky vents

Drain and winterize any outdoor faucets or

irrigation systems

Clean or replace furnace filters

Have a professional inspect your furnace or

heating system

Have your wood-burning fireplace checked for

soot or creosote build-up

Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO)

monitors, inspect (or install) fire extinguishers,

review fire escape plans, and rid your home of

old newspapers and other fire hazards.

Annual BBQ / Campout

Blueberry Zucchini Bread Submitted by Kristin Ball

3 eggs, lightly beaten

1 cup vegetable oil

3 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/4 cups white sugar

2 cups shredded zucchini

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 pint fresh blueberries

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

Lightly grease 2 loaf pans.

In a large bowl, beat together the eggs, oil, vanilla, and sugar. Fold in the zucchini. Beat in the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. Gently fold in the blueberries.

Transfer to the prepared mini-loaf pans.

Bake 60 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a knife inserted in the center of a loaf comes out clean. Cool 20 minutes in pans,

then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.

One of the great things about living in Heritage

Hills is the annual BBQ and Camp Out!

This year, we had a bouncy house, games, a

movie (Big thanks to Keith Kelly), and

great food from Class Act Catering!

Thank you to the all of our neighbors who

participated, we had a great turn out!

If you have any requests or feedback for next

year, please let Sara Cupp know.

Kids and Pets With fall here, school is back in session, please remember

to be mindful of children in the area and go the speed

limit of 25 MPH or less in our neighborhood and 20

MPH or less near the schools.

There was request for information about swimming

lessons over the summer. Here is the information to be

prepared for next year:

Arena sports -

There were also request for referrals on pet sitting

National Night Out…a Success for

Awareness!

Remember we live in a safe place - one of the safest.

Don't be scared, just be smart - lock doors, windows, if

you have an alarm, set it, don't leave purses in cars - many crimes are through open doors or windows.

If you see anything out of place, use 9-1-1 to alert police. Even it is isn't an emergency, the detective

Zydek said use 911 so the call center has your location information. The non-emergency number goes to the

same call center just without the extra information. Police do not mind driving by and checking out what's going on. Let's use the facebook

Heritiage Hills HOA page to keep neighbors informed about anything you are reporting.

Sammamish has a soliciting ordinance, meaning that solicitors must have a license to be going

door-to-door. If you encounter someone, ask for the license. If they don't have it, excuse yourself to call 911, go back and talk to them until police arrive, if possible.

Inventory your electronics and valuables by recording serial numbers and taking pictures of

jewelry. Things are retrieved from pond shops - and criminals are caught.

If someone comes to your door that you don't know, make sure they know you are there - doing whatever you are comfortable with - asking who it is through the door, saying you don't open the door to strangers, saying you don't buy thing unless you go to or invite the business

or make the call to the business, or just making a lot of noise.

During this time of year when its cold and dark, its especially important to keep exterior lights and a couple of interior lights on, keep doors and windows closed and locked (including garage doors which are a huge problem), setting alarms, etc.

Packages are more frequent this time of year also and thieves drive around looking for

unattended packages on porches.

Most crimes are by unarmed people, during the week, in the daytime, looking for a place with no one home and no one looking. They go in and out the house quickly - grab small electronics that are out and search master bedrooms for cash, jewelry, guns, etc.
