C. Sheetrock Gypsu m Wallboard shall be applied to minimi ze end joints. Boards shall be brought into contact, but shall not be fo rced into place. Where ends or edges abut, they shall be neat ly fitted. End joints sha ll be staggered. Joints on opposite sides of a partition shall be so arranged as lO occur on different studs.

D. Wallboard shall be attached to framing supports with screws; no nailing wi ll be permitted. Fasteners shall provide a slight depression below the surface of the wallboard without

breaking the face paper and fasteners shall not be driven closer than 3/8" from edges and ends of the board. While the fasteners are being driven, the wallboard shall be held ill firm contact with the underlying support. Altachment should proceed from the center of the wallboard towards ends and edges.

E. When necessary to cut ends and edges, scribe, or make cutouts within the fie ld of the wallboard, it shall be done in a workman like manner.

F. Metal corner beads shall be securely attached as per manufacturer's recommendations, to all external corners and in single lengths. Clinch and nail corner beads securely.

G. Metal trim shall be installed where drywall abuts ex posed dissimilar wa ll materia l in the manner recommended by the manufacturer.

3.2 JOINT TREATMENT

A. Unless otherwise indicated, all wa lls, parLitions and ceilings are included. Joints of ex terior gypsum wallboard. where not exposed to view, shall not be treated, but shall be installed butted tight ly.

B. Mixing - Durabond "90" joint compound shall be mixed according to the directions on the bag. Caution shall be used to prevent excessive mixing and usc of extremely cold water and compound.

C. All V-grooves formed by abutting wrapped eased edges of Sheetrock SW shall be prefilled with Durabond "90" joint compound. Application shall be with a Oexib le 5" or 6" joint fini shing knife or an Ames Pre-Fi ll too l. The V shall be fill ed nush with the plane of the taper depression and any excess compound beyond the groove shall be wiped clean, leaving a clear depress ion to receive tape . The pre-fill shall have hardened prior to the next app lication.

Pcrf-A-Tape reinforcement shall be applied immediately and centered over the joint and seated into the compound. Sufficient compound must remain under the tape to provide proper bond. A skim coal shall immediately follow tape embedment but not lO function as a fill or a second coat.

E. Tape shall be properl y fo lded and embedded in all angles to provide a true angle.

F. The tape or embedding coat must be tho rough ly dry prior 10 appl ication of the fi ll COal.

G. Filling - USG Ready Mixed Compound - All-Purpose, shall be applied over the embedding coat, filling the board taper nush with the surface. On joints with no taper, the fill coaL sha ll cover the tape and feat her out at least 4" on ei ther side of the tape. No fiJI coat is necessary at interior angles.

H. The fill coat shall be thoroughly dry prior to app lication of the fin ish coat.

I. Finishing - USG Ready Mixed Joint Compound - All Purpose, shall be spread evenly over and ex tended slightly beyond the fill coat on all joints and feathered to a smooth uniform finish. On tapered joints, the finish coat shall not protrude beyond the plane of the surface.

J. All taped angles shall rece ive a finish coat to cover the tape and taping compound, providing a true angle. Where necessary, sanding shall occur between coats and foll owing the final application of compound to provide a smooth surface ready for decoration.

K. Filling and finishing of fastener depressions - A taping or all -purpose compound must be applied as the first coat to all fastener depressions. This sha ll be fo llowed by a minimum of 2 additiona l coats of a ll-purpose compound, leaving all depressions level with the plane o f the surface.
