The communications world is transforming as demand for bandwidth and high-quality multimedia services escalates. Residential and business customers have rising expectations of the communication services they select.

Service providers know that migration to a packet-based infrastructure is essential. At the same time, networks must efficiently maintain existing revenue-bearing services as they deliver Ethernet aggregation and guaranteed connection-oriented Ethernet transport.

Fujitsu understands the profound changes in the communications industry. We’ve been involved in every major technological development in the business over the past 20 years. We’ve developed the FLASHWAVE® 9500 Packet Optical Networking Platform (Packet ONP) as a lasting infrastructure technology foundation for the evolving packet-centric network.

A Whole New Class of Optical Networking

The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP is the ideal implementation of a whole new class of optical networking. It’s engineered to deliver high-bandwidth, high-quality, packet-based services in today’s multiprotocol packet environment.

The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP is the first type of network element to deliver:

▶ Agile packet aggregation, traditionally found only in more costly, feature-rich service elements

▶ Robust bulk transport scalability, combined with the operational stability that has defined optical networking

Carrier-Grade Quality

Fujitsu sets the standard for performance, reliability and carrier-grade quality. We’ve built dependable, scalable optical networks for customers of all types and sizes throughout every sector of the communications market in North America. We created the FLASHWAVE 9500 platform for national and metro communications providers, cable companies, wireless service providers, government agencies and the research and education community.

The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP applies time-tested optical networking heritage to deliver a general-purpose aggregation and transport infrastructure for the emerging packet-centric service environment. This platform can take an optical network into a bandwidth-aggressive future while preserving existing technology assets, reducing both capital and operating expenditures.

Manageable Scalability, Unique Integration

The FLASHWAVE 9500 platform is the definitive Packet ONP. Its unique hardware and software architecture integrates Ethernet, ROADM and SONET/SDH technology in a single shelf, driving cost out of the metro network. It provides a modular, chassis-level fusion of connection-oriented Ethernet, ROADM-on-a-card and SONET/SDH transport on a single addressable optical networking class element.

The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP family consists of common interface cards and system software across a variety of configurations, traffic capacity ranges and entry prices. This allows you to cost-optimize your network.

Triple-Play Networks

The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP features integrated Ethernet, ROADM and SONET/SDH transport. This flexibility affords service providers the opportunity to support a wide variety of next-generation and legacy voice, video and data applications while eliminating several costly network elements.

Consolidated Core Metro/Regional Networking

The FLASHWAVE 9500 platform collapses complete next-generation Add/Drop Multiplexer (NGADM) and ROADM devices into a single network element with high-capacity packet aggregation and grooming capabilities. This provides more scalable support for a growing Ethernet infrastructure.

Consolidated Ethernet Services Networks

The FLASHWAVE 9500 Packet ONP allows carriers to consolidate their Ethernet infrastructure by supporting the full range of EPL and EVPL services defined by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). This includes native Ethernet and Ethernet-over-SONET/SDH services.

Wireless Backhaul

The FLASHWAVE 9500 system supports native TDM services and so provides an ideal vehicle to manage latency-sensitive wireless applications regardless of access and transport technology.

In the emerging metro network architecture, Packet ONPs provide distributed aggregation and transport. This design allows premium-priced service elements—routers—to continue to provide specialized, feature-rich functions in a less widely distributed topology. The Packet ONP infrastructure elements can reduce the cost-per-bit in these networks, and their operational similarity to dedicated SONET/SDH and ROADM network elements makes them easier to manage than complex routers.
