Parish Office PASTORAL POST
Written by Fr. Tony
When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of food. This holiday is specifically
designed to revolve around a meal. While we are enjoying our feasts, there
are obviously people who cannot always provide food for themselves and
their families.
In order that we may be more grateful for all that we have as well as
acknowledge our privilege, I invite all of us to participate in a canned good
drive. The drive is organized by DeSales High School students and they will
pick up whatever we collect. The donations will be taken to St. Stephen’s
Community House on East 17th Street. The Community House’s mission is
to strengthen families and empower our community and their vision is that
Linden becomes a community of togetherness with endless opportunities.
Let us show them our love and support!
Your canned goods can be dropped off on the table near the baptismal font
in the front left of the church anytime between now (November 17-18) and
next weekend (November 24-25). Whatever food is here by Thanksgiving
morning will be blessed during our 10 AM mass that day, but food will be
accepted through the weekend and the blessing will still count.
Lastly, for those looking for something to read at your Thanksgiving table, I
recommend using this scripture passage from Colossians 3:12-15.
Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe
yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and
patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who
offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive
others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in
perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your
hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And
always be thankful.
STEWARDSHIP MEDITATION
“And then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great
power and glory.” (MARK 13:26)
We will all have that day when we are standing before God and our life is
played out like a movie. When this happens and God asks each of us,
“What have you done with the gifts that I have given you?” How will you
respond?
