Dear Prince of Peace Community,
As I reflect over the last seven months serving as the Interim Principal of
Prince of Peace Catholic School (POPCS), the words faith, amazing, and
rewarding come to mind. The education is strong and filled with aca-
demic excellence—thanks to those who built and continue to build upon its
faith-filled foundation. The entire school and parish staff are an amazing
group of knowledgeable, cooperative, and energetic people. A few of my
favorite moments across the past few months include watching the children
attend their first day of school, the prayer-filled balloon release during All
Saints Week, school Mass on Wednesdays, a snow day in December, the
Christmas Concert, watching our sports teams play, high fives in the hall-
ways, Battle of the Books, and witnessing the hard work of our PTO!
Recently, we celebrated our 15th birthday and announced the re-establishment of the school’s Annual Fund. Its purpose is simple—to
continue building upon the mission of Prince of Peace Catholic School as
the apostolate of Prince of Peace Catholic Church collaborating with families to offer children an integrated
Catholic formation IN FAITH, IN KNOWLEDGE, IN FRIENDSHIP, and FOR SERVICE. Contributions to the
annual fund will be used for specific projects, scholarships, minor improvements, teacher needs, athletics, and
outdoor facilities. During Catholic Schools Week, a special collection will be taken at all Masses for dona-
tions to the Annual Fund. We are deeply moved by and appreciative of the incredible generosity of our do-
nors. If you have any questions, please contact me or our Annual Fund Chair, David Cervetti.
Prince of Peace Catholic School continues to be a recognized leader in Catholic Education in the Diocese of
Charleston, South Carolina for the last fifteen years. We salute its leadership, faculty and staff for giving gen-
erously of their time, talent, and treasure to make our school all that it is today!
Please accept my invitation to learn more about our community by attending an upcoming event:

Lessons from St. Francis de Sales
Renowned speaker and author, Ralph
Martin, presents the timeless teach-
ings of St. Francis de Sales, bishop,
Doctor of the Church, and famous
16th century author, in a way that provides profound
wisdom for living in today's world. Through the in-
spirations of this influential and well-known saint, we
gain great insight into how sin affects our lives, our
relationships, and our witness to the world. St. Fran-
cis de Sales equips us in our pursuit of holiness, ena-bling us to live the fervent, authentic Catholic life to
which we are called.

As Catholics, we are heirs to a remarkable heritage.
The history of our Faith is so much more than a list
of facts and dates. It is a fascinating story of adven-
ture, rebellion, tragedy, and triumph. A story 2,000
years in the making, one word best describes Catho-
lic history: Epic. Epic: A Journey through Church
History is a captivating and fast-paced look at the
story of the Catholic Church. Beginning with the
lives of the apostles all the way up to the present
day, Epic takes the immense history of the Church
and simplifies it into twelve, color-coded time peri-
ods. In the course of twenty weeks, participants
learn about the major people, places, and events that
comprise the captivating story of Christianity. This
study provides participants with an understanding of Church history that enables them to have a greater
sense of meaning and identity as Catholics.
To reserve your spot, go to http://bit.ly/2yftJKB

All make the sign of the cross.
Leader: Peace be to this house and to all who dwell here in the name of the Lord.
All: Blessed be God forever.
Read: John 1:1-14 and then PRAY together the Our Father.
Take the blessed chalk and write the following inscription above the main entrance door:
20+C+M+B+18
All: Lord God of Heaven and earth, you revealed your only begotten Son to every nation by the guidance of
a star. Bless this house and all who inhabit it. May we be blessed with health, goodness of heart, gentleness
and the keeping of your law. Fill us with the light of Christ, that our love for each other may go out to all.
Father, bless all who gather here. Send your holy angel to defend us and fill with grace all who enter this
door. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Logo items are a great evangelical tool! Prices: t-
shirt ($8) and 24-oz Tervis tumbler ($15). Con-
tact Angela Calabro to purchase!
The “chalking of the door” or “blessing of the door-way” on the Feast of the Epiphany is a popular pious custom throughout the Christian world. Family and friends gather at the main entrances to their homes and ask God’s blessing on their dwellings, on all who live or visit there, and protection from all evil spirits. With chalk that has been blessed at Mass, an inscription is written on the lintel above the front door. It is made with chalk, a product of clay, to recall the human nature taken by God’s eternal Word in the Mystery of the In-carnation. The inscription is made above the door so that all who enter and depart this year may enjoy God’s blessing. The four digits designating the new year appear at the
beginning and end of the line. Since Epiphany comes so near the beginning of the new year, the numbers rep-resent an annual renewal of God’s blessing. The letters have two meanings. They are the initials of the traditional names of the Magi: Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. These initials over the doorway serve to remind us of Who the Magi saw and adored in the manger, and they remind us to pay the Christ Child homage as well. The letters also abbreviate the Latin words “Christmas Mansionem Benedicat.” “May Christ bless this house.” The crosses represent Christ, whom we invoke, and the saintliness of the Magi who traveled from afar to adore the new born king.

Family to Family is a ministry of our school wherein
families seek support during all kinds of circum-
stances—death or illness, after birthing a baby, sur-
geries, during/after moving, following a job loss, etc.
Often, the support needed is a meal (homemade or
takeout), gift cards, carpooling, a grocery run, snack
drop off, and more. A group of school-based volun-
teers sign up to participate and needs are communi-
cated to this group. If you’re a family in the school
and wish to receive or give support, contact Jennifer
Pfaffl at [email protected].
During the month of January, we will have our annual Diaper Drive benefiting Birthright of Greenville. When a baby is born, every Birthright mother is given a "Baby Bundle" with newborn diapers, baby lotions, baby wash, and wipes. As you can imagine, they go through these items fairly quickly! Leave do-nations in the Narthex and CLEARLY MARK IT IS FOR BIRTHRIGHT. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your family to participate in a pro-life activity to mark the anniversary of Roe vs Wade and the annual March for Life in DC.
Our wildly successful Vacation Bible School,
Totus Tuus, will be returning again this Summer!

gram. Sign up begins on 4 February 2018, first
come first serve, during Super Sign Up Sunday in
the PAC!
The Totus Tuus Potluck is scheduled for 25 July
2018. All parishioners are welcome to enjoy an
evening of fellowship, even if you do not have
children participating in the program. Questions?
