We create the World’s most advanced saddles.
Fabric creates unique and innovative cycling products, which combine performance, comfort and efficiency in the most simple and elegant solutions. We push the boundaries of traditional component and accessory design by taking an unconventional approach to development. We look outside of the bicycle industry to find the latest engineering and manufacturing technologies to construct products in ways that no other manufacturer has done to date. We have a clear understanding of good ergonomics and their benefits, and we aim to make it easy for you to find the product that suits your needs best.
We create the World’s most advanced saddles.
The ALM shallow saddle; Flexible carbon.
We kneW from the outset that We had to look outside of the traditional methods and sources of manufacture.
The Cell saddle uses a unique structure of hexagonal air-filled cells, which does away with the need for foam and a cover.
Technology plays a vital part in the design and engineering process at Fabric. By looking at parallel industries we have adopted new methods of prototyping and manufacture that have enabled us to create the most innovative and market leading products. We have partnered with the makers of high-end running shoes to bring their technology and experience to the development of our ground breaking Cell saddle.
For our ALM carbon saddle we collaborated with Airbus Group Innovations, who are pioneering 3D titanium printing, to prototype the carbon leaf spring rails; the result is a radically unique appearance with exceptional shock absorbing characteristics. As we look to enter new product categories we will be adopting a similar approach to design, engineering and manufacture to bring real advantages and benefits to our users.

The ALM saddle is named after Additive Layer Manufacturing, the method for printing titanium in a three dimensional form.
Line is suited to a narrow-hipped, slim body.Scoop & ALM suit an average sized body. Cell is designed for a wide-hipped, stocky body.
We make a range of saddles to maximise comfort and performance. It’s simple to find the right fit; you simply choose your body type and your riding position. We use the Somatotype index to identify the correct saddle width for you. Somatotypes refer to your underlying physique and is not changed by overeating or training. It is easy to find your Somatotype, you simply divide your height(cm) by your wrist circumference(cm), and multiply by 100. This percentage indicates which Somatotype you are. Depending on your Somatotype we can recommend a saddle that best suits your bone structure.

From the outset we wanted to push the boundaries of saddle design to deliver a beautiful cutting-edge product that performs at the highest level. Working closely with engineers from Airbus Group Innovations, and utilising Additive Layer Manufacturing technology, enabled us to create a saddle design previously considered unachievable using carbon material. The result is an ultra-lightweight saddle with a distinctly unique organic form. By moving the rear mounting points of the rails to the edge of the base we opened up the centre part of the saddle, creating more flexibility. In normal circumstances this would make the outside of the saddle even more stiff and uncomfortable, but the way that the rails are designed allows them to act like a leaf spring - which dampens vibration and allows optimum flex across the whole of the ALM saddle.
FLEXIBLE CARBON
Designed in collaboration with Airbus Group Innovations.
The first contact points of your bike are where you require comfort
the most. Our all-weather grip uses a dual contour, over-moulded
sleeve that has a hidden aluminium clamp, which increases the
surface area, and a hollow-hex barrel to reduce weight.
grip
The lightest lock-on grip.
Our hi-grip handlebar tape has a shock absorbing gel backing. It’s
simple to wrap, reusable and suitable with or without gloves in any
conditions. Available in a selection of colours or a limited edition
buffalo leather - as used on the ALM Ltd saddle.

Lightweight tape in 6 colours and buffalo leather.

What does ALM stand for ?ALM stands for additive layer manufacture – the process we initially used when we designed the saddle with 3d printed titanium rails
What makes it unique ?The rail design provides a leaf spring, allowing the saddle to flex in the centre in a similar manner to our proven Scoop saddles. This allows us to use minimal padding (and save weight), as the comfort comes from the flex in the base.
What width is the ALM ?142mm – this is the optimal width for a saddle (140-145) to suit all types of riders, and accounts for 85/90 % of all high end saddles sold.
Why no ti rails ?The titanium rails, proved a lot more costly to produce ($750+ retail). We discovered we could make the same saddle, lighter and cheaper using carbon, without compromising the design. We would not however have come to the design, had we not developed the saddle using ALM, as traditional carbon factories had told us it was impossible to make.
What is the carbon lay up ?The base is 1.2mm thick. Which equates to 9 UD carbon layers6 layers @ 30 degrees, 2 layers @ 45 degree and 1 @ 0 degree
What input did Airbus have in the project ?Airbus helped with the design of the rail structure. From Fabrics initial design they ran over 20 design scenarios through their FEA software. Equating to over 150 hours of analysis
What does FEA stand for ?Finite element analysis – this is when a 3d model is broken up into thousands of tiny triangles (finite elements). A load is then applied and the software calculates the force on every point of these triangles, to produce a “real world” loading scenario, to see if the material will withstand the forces placed upon it.

Why Line ?The Line refers to the cut out channel on the saddle – unique to fabric, as it cuts right to the base.
What makes it unique ?The “Line “ feature provides pressure relief, and weight reduction, without sacrificing the inherent (and thoroughly proven) flex characteristics of the saddle. (A cut out in the base would create the need for additional support around the hole, and as such adversely affect the bases flex)
What materials are used ?Microfibre foam topper, with a nylon / nylon re-enforced base (depending on spec level)
What width is the Line ?134mm – so it is suited to riders looking for a more race orientated saddle / ectomorphs
Why is it not available in all the curvatures ?The Line is only tooled in Shallow at present, as it is a race saddle, we have not created a radius (more upright) version. Flat will likely follow in the new year
Why Scoop ? The saddle is based around the hugely successful Charge Spoon and Scoop saddles (over 250,000 units in the UK). With the addition of 2 additional curvatures to the saddles, we have created 3 unique saddles, to suit every riding style – at the optimal width for the majority of riders.
What makes it unique ?3 piece construction (rails / base / topper) – produced using vacuum bonding, this means that there is no top cover (holding the foam of a traditional saddle under tension) which allows for more flex in our saddles, and also means it looks incredibly clean, as it does not rely on glue and staples on the base.
How does the curvature story work ?Flat: Flat provides an efficient supportive platform for an aerodynamic, stretched position.Shallow: Shallow suits a performance orientated position that demands comfort and flexibility. Radius: Radius is aimed at a more upright riding position, it’s shape offers maximum support and com-fort.
What width is the Scoop ?142mm – so it is suited to 85/90% of riders. With the addition of 3 curvature levels, riders can find a saddle best suited to their favoured riding style.
What materials are used ?Microfibre foam topper, with a nylon / nylon re-enforced / carbon base (depending on spec level)
What are the spec levels ?Elite = Nylon base / cro mo rails Race = Nylon base/ ti rails Pro = Nylon re-enforced base / carbon railsUltimate = Carbon rails / carbon base
Why Cell ?The name comes from the hexagonal “cells” that provide a unique cushioning effect.
What makes it unique ?The air cells of the saddle - these are filled with air as opposed to the traditional gel. As such they provide comfort, at a reduced weight. The construction method of the saddle is also unique, as it is not manufac-tured in a traditional saddle factory – and utilises similar clean construction methods seen in the Scoop saddles.
What materials are used ?TPU upper, with a PC base
What width is the Cell ?155mm – so it is suited to riders looking for a comfort saddle / those who are mesomorphs
Why is it not available in all the curvatures ?The Cell is a comfort saddle / for larger riders, so only comes in a radius profile – to provide a more upright position / support
