FABRIC TECHNOLOGIES

FOR WORKWEAR & PROTECTIVE

APPARELIn order to meet the extensive and specific

needs of wearers in the workwear market today, INVISTA’s CORDURA® brand team has worked in conjunction with authorised fabric

producers to develop innovative fabrics which provide a wide range of benefits.

EXCEPTIONAL ABRASION RESISTANCE The INVISTA nylon 6.6 fibre used in CORDURA® fabrics has a melting point of 254˚C (commodity nylon 6 has a melt temperature of 219˚C). This high melting point is believed to provide CORDURA® fabric with the ability to withstand high levels of friction generated heat whilst maintaining fabric integrity.

Whilst the melt temperature of polyester is similar to that of nylon 6.6 fibre, it requires significantly less frictional energy to arrive at the melt point. HIGH TENSILE & TEAR STRENGTHCotton is an intrinsically weak fibre when compared to nylon 6.6. Testing shows that fabrics based on nylon 6.6 fibre have higher levels of tensile and tear strength compared fabrics made from other core fibres used in fabrics for workwear.

DURABILITYCORDURA® FABRICS ARE SYNONYMOUS WITH DURABILITY AND RECOGNISED AS FABRICS OF CHOICE FOR TOUGH AND RUGGED WORK CONDITIONS.

MAINTAINING GARMENT INTEGRITYThe exceptional abrasion resistance and tear strength of nylon 6.6 based CORDURA® fabrics can lead to a lower propensity for holes forming in garments, which in turn means a lower propensity to rips and tears. Garments can, therefore, retain their original appearance for long periods of time and as a result repair costs are likely to be reduced.

COLOUR FASTNESS, SHRINKAGE AND PILLINGCORDURA® fabrics for workwear and protective apparel are tested under the toughest of conditions in order to meet the many and varied performance requirements demanded of garments in the workwear market.

CORDURA® fabrics have been developed in accordance with the exacting fabric standards for workwear as devised by the European Textile Service Association (ETSA). These standards demand very high levels of performance when considering characteristics such as shrinkage, pilling and colour fastness in addition to fabric durability when garments are washed at high temperature.

CORDURA® CLASSIC FABRICCORDURA® Classic fabrics are mainly available in four principle fabric weights, all produced using 100% CORDURA® brand qualifying nylon 6.6 yarn that is air jet textured to offer enhanced abrasion resistance and a particular aesthetic appearance. Fabrics are primarily based on plain weaves although other woven constructions such as rip stops are readily available. CORDURA® Classic fabrics are also available in nylon 6.6 / para-aramid blends.

MEETS EN471 CONTRAST 2003 IN A RANGE OF COLOURS. Garments washed in the industrial laundry environment can be reinforced with CORDURA® Classic fabrics that meet EN471 Contrast 2003. As a result, wearer protection can be enhanced and industrial laundry performance will be optimised. CORDURA® Classic fabrics can now be used as reinforcements in garments made for specific manufacturing, construction and public utility sectors where industrial laundry requirements often need to be met.

STRETCH FUNCTIONALITYCORDURA® Classic is available in a 2-way stretch version (280 and 370 g/m2) using INVISTA’s LYCRA® T400® yarn to provide greater comfort in garments such as across the seat of a trouser and the shoulders of a jacket. CORDURA® Classic fabrics using more conventional LYCRA® fibre stretch technology are already used in markets such as motorcycle apparel.

CORDURA® CLASSIC FABRIC USING SOLUTION-DYED NYLON Solution-Dyed CORDURA® Classic fabrics are manufactured using INVISTA’s specialty nylon 6.6 yarns. These fabrics offer innovative alternatives to standard CORDURA® Classic workwear reinforcement fabrics.

KEY ADVANTAGES: · Matt lustre - reduced shine and reflectance· Excellent batch-to-batch shade matching· Superb high temperature industrial laundry wash fastness· Enhanced resistance to sunlight UV fade and strength loss· Dyeing process uses less water and energy compared to piece dyed fabric Innovative fabric designs can be developed using solution-dyed fabric technology such as:2-tone CORDURA® Classic fabricsCORDURA® fabrics containing “reflective” yarns

CORDURA® LITE FABRICSCORDURA® Lite fabrics are primarily used as garment reinforcement fabrics and have high strength to weight ratios. Being based on the high tenacity nylon 6.6 yarns, (80-84 cN/tex) used for the construction of air bags, these fabrics offer excellent tear and tensile strength. The nylon used in these fabrics is stronger than steel.

The key offering in the CORDURA® Lite fabric collection for reinforcement is a 420 denier dobby fabric at 260 g/m2. The latest development is a 315 denier dobby version at 220 g/m2. Other fabric constructions are also available.

GARMENT REINFORCEMENT iGarments featuring CORDURA® fabric reinforcements are worn by tradespeople such as electricians, builders, carpenters and plumbers. Most commonly reinforced areas: knees, trouser hems and seats, shoulders, pockets and elbows.

CORDURA® NYCO FABRICCORDURA® NYCO fabrics are based on intimate spun blends of INVISTA’s T420 nylon 6.6 fibre and cotton to provide the ultimate in both durability and comfort. The fabrics are particularly suitable for those environments where working conditions are at their most harsh and where a high stress will be placed on the garments. The high cotton content not only provides comfort to the wearer but also protection in those environments where a high degree of soiling is prevalent

NYCO 50/50 Original range based on a 50:50 intimate spun blend of nylon 6.6 and cotton.

FABRICS FOR FOOTWEARCORDURA® AFT FABRICSCORDURA® AFT fabrics are made using warp knit technology and are increasingly used in trekking, military and law enforcement footwear where durability and breathability are two key performance parameters. The CORDURA® AFT warp knit fabric is used in conjunction with a breathable non-woven felt to provide a durable, breathable and water repellent outer shell system. The collection includes a range of 3D mesh fabrics.

All CORDURA® AFT fabrics are tested to meet minimum brand standards in tensile strength, abrasion and snagging performance.

CORDURA® CLASSIC FABRICSCORDURA® CLASSIC fabrics are extensively used in foam and felt laminated forms to offer durability to the outer shells of light weight safety footwear.
