GLITTER NAILSNothing says you are ready for the festive season like a fresh set of Christmas claws! You need not have candy canes and a little fat Santa on your nails though, because the big nail trend right now is glitter, and lots of it. Red and gold are great nods to the Christmas festive colours; you can go matte on four fingers and have a glitter accent nail if full glitter nails are a bit too glitz for you.
Another big trend right now is burgundy; it’s a close colour to red and can look nice and festive with some glitter on it. BRONZED GLOWING SKINBeautiful summer skin need not be difficult. You can glow gorgeously in no time with something most of us Gold Coasters love – a natural looking spray tan. NEW YEAR NEW DOThe New Year is fast approaching and nothing says “I am ready for whatever 2018 brings” like a fresh new cut or colour. Be brave and have a hairdresser give your hair a big snip – bobs and short hair cuts are very stylish this season. Not super brave? Hair just off the shoulders is also making waves.
Colour wise, there’s something for everyone. Golden ombré is big and it’s a great surfer girl look for the Gold Coast. Baby blonde is a great option for blondes who want to go lighter and Bleached Toned is an almost white blonde look – for those who can pull it off. Brunettes can rock Driftwood Lights where golden tones shine in the light and for the adventurous, Chocolate Mauve, a mix of brown and pink hair – not for the fainthearted but a surprisingly great combination! Another big trend is Salt and Pepper, so grey is no longer something you need to hide (young people are even choosing to dye their hair grey – who would have thought?). Get your own salt and pepper tones evened out for a really current look.

CHRISTMAS DAY BEAUTYTo match your glam nails and new hairdo you’ll need gorgeous make up for Christmas day. Keep it light and simple as it’s going to be hot, especially if you are helping out or running the lunch or dinner yourself. A great foundation is essential, plus concealer if the kids were more naughty than nice on Christmas Eve waiting up impatiently for Santa.
2017 has been the year of contouring, so if you’ve nailed the technique during the year, show it off, if not, a good bronzer will be sufficient. Apply a mattifying powder to set your make up too, it helps your foundation stay intact when you’re sweating. 2017 has also birthed the highlight, and a great festive look is a beautiful, shiny gold applied above the cheekbone.
Fill in those eyebrows, and have fairly neutral shades on your eyes, particularly if it’s a Christmas lunch rather than dinner. Eye liner is a must and mascara, or fake lashes for those that have got the knack for them.
Lastly apply some red lippie. It’s a great statement that is still popular this year. To shake things up try a matte lipstick or long-lasting one – super handy not having to reapply it all day!

You’ll need 1 large bruschetta stick, sliced. For each sandwich, see ingredients below. Stack on the sandwich in order listed and enjoy!
Sandwich 1: 2 tbs ricotta + 2 cherry tomatoes, yellow and red, halved + watercress, for decoration
Sandwich 2: 1 thin slice cucumber, lengthways + 2 slices salami + watercress, for decoration
Sandwich 3: ½ hardboiled egg + 1 tinned sardine, quickly grilled either side + chives, for decoration
Sandwich 4: 2 tbs ricotta + 10 blueberries
Sandwich 5: 2 tbs ricotta + ½ hardboiled egg + ¼ avocado + watercress, for decoration
Sandwich 6: 2 tbs ricotta + ¼ pomegranate, seeds only
Sandwich 7: 1 slice prosciutto + thin slice of rockmelon
Sandwich 8: 2 tbs ricotta + 1 slice sashimi salmon, or salmon labelled “for raw consumption” + dill, for decoration

BERRY HEALTHY
CHICKEN SALADNothing says summer like the flavour of berries bursting
in your mouth. This salad is designed to taste like our
favourite season with its refreshing and nourishing
properties. Great enjoyed as a side at a BBQ or on its
own for a light lunch. Pick up your tasty almonds at
Go Vita Natures Forest Health Foods and the rest of the
salad supplies from Q Growers Market or Aldi, Coles or
Woolworths at Q Super Centre. Serves 4
INGREDIENTS
1 large bag (4 cup approx.) mixed salad leaves¼ cucumber, skinned and sliced½ avocado, sliced2 chicken breasts, grilled and sliced¼ cup blackberries¼ cup raspberries¼ cup strawberries, halved½ cup almonds, chopped roughly1 cup blackberries¼ cup water1/3 cup red wine vinegar3 tbs olive oil1 tbs agave nectar (or maple syrup or your favourite sweetener)Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONSBuild your salad by placing in the salad leaves first and giving it a good mix around. Then set the cucumber slices amongst the leaves. Next place the sliced avocado in the salad bowl, just off to the centre without spreading it around. Follow with the chicken; sprinkle it over the salad, then do the same with the berries. Lastly scatter the chopped almonds over the whole salad. For the dressing, combine the blackberries and water in a food processor or blender and process until the berries are pureed. In a tightly lidded container, combine the puree with the rest of the ingredients and shake well. Taste and add salt and pepper.
To serve, pour dressing over salad. Berryful!

Drum roll please! Introducing Elvis, the fur-tastic winner of the 2017 Doggie Face of Q competition! Seven-month-old Elvis beat over 931 doggie entrants to take the crown and took home a $500 Vetcall voucher and a specially designed dog tag.
Elvis is an Australian Shepherd and boasts many talents including shaking hands, high fives and even talks on command.
Elvis was born close to Valentine’s Day and his breeder requested that he be named after a love song. The King of Rock n Roll’s ‘Love Me Tender’ was chosen and the name Elvis stuck!
