Lead Story Headline Summer 2 13 ohort III Imperial County F ACES for t he Fu tur e My experience in Imperial County FACES for the Future was superb. This summer consisted of intense, yet helpful two weeks. The first week was focused mostly on basic skills such as, taking vital signs, practicing patient care, and medical math. The structure o f the first week was ver y similar to an average day of a nursing student. We would start the day in our groups, consisting of four FACES student and one IVC Nursing student. In the classroom, our IVC instructors introduced us to something different every day, such as heart problems, respiratory system, and diabetes. After learning about them in the classroom we would then go and practice in the simulation labs. These skills I found very helpful to use in our clinical rotations. For these health complications are very common h ere in the Imperial Valley. In the afternoon we would do medical math, also very helpful and convenient for our clinical rotations. Much of the hospital’s staff members were very impressed with our skills that we had learned f rom the academy. The second week was onl y three days mostly regarding writing our personal statements for college applications. I could honestly say that many helpful steps and suggestions were given. We also did our CPR certification and also did some financial studies. FACES for the Future has really been an awesome experience from the academy to the clinical rotations. FACES is a wonderful opportunity and I on ly see this program get bigger and better thanks to the wonderful team. - Luis Pitones, FACES Student Imperial County FACES
